Crown xls 1002 x-over section

Hey TB family,
Just started using a Crown XLS 1002 with a Sans Amp RBI and 410 and 210 cab, using both channels in the stereo setting. It seems the high end is so present compared to when using an old QSC RMX power amp. Does anyone suggest using any of the Crown’s internal HPF/LPF/BP settings?. Or is the high end so predominant because it’s an efficient Class D amp?. Any setting suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks all!!

There should be no difference in the high end unless there is additional processing being used. I don’t recall there being any eq available in the XLS amps but I am not current on the software updates.

One thing for sure, it’s not because it’s class D.

You might try doing a factory reset, especially if the amp is used. Bottom of page 11 in the manual. Chances are slim it'll change anything if the amp is new, but it's a non-invasive move and it won't cause a regression. Or it shouldn't anyway.

If the amp was sold as new, there's a chance it's defective. Maybe it was sold as new to someone else, the buyer powered it up, knew (heard) a problem, returned it, the vendor powered it up and "got sound out of it" and tagged it No Problem Found, and it was sealed back up all nice and tidy to ship out again. (However, take this with a grain of salt. I read a lot of Bierce and Twain and so am suspicious of humanity in general.)

There's also a chance the RMX was defective and you just weren't aware of it.

Does the rig respond accordingly when attenuating Treble / Presence on the RBI? FWIW, I use 1500 / 2500's but keep a few RMX's on the shelf.

Edit: forgot to ask....are you using the x-over as suggested by the thread title?

If both amps were / are working correctly you would not hear any difference.
The XLS's do not have any EQ section.
With the amp in stereo do both cabinets seem to have more top end? If not
swap the cabinets between the out channels and see what happens.
How are you driving both channels of the amp, using Y mode , a Y cable or both XLR outputs on the pre amp?
How are you connecting the speakers to the amp?

What crossover mode are you using? Are you using a high pass filter on one channel or both.

If the amp is used, be aware they there are some optional contracting elements that are (or were) possible to load into the DSP for a variety of installed system applications. I think this was part of HQ Net, but it’s been a long time since I worked with any of that.

For example, it was possible to add CD horn eq correction, which would do exactly what you are experiencing. Not saying that’s the cause, but to be aware of the possibilities.

Those amps have no networking or any EQ.

Thank you for the reply. Will try the factory reset. I did buy it new.

Hi,, it does respond to eq changes on the RBI, just have to dial back the Presence and Drive way more since using the Crown. I’m not using any x-over, just the Y-coupler function to daisy chain Channel 1 to Channel 2. Will do a factory reset just to be sure. Thanks for the reply.

Using the Y-mode with the single output of the RBI, not currently using any x-over points. Using both channel’s outputs via a speakon cable to each cabinet. Just seems that since using the Crown I have to really dial back the Presence and Drive. Do you suggest using the x-over?. Thank you!

The high pass filter function would be worth using.

JOOC: are you using the 0.7 or 1.4 sensitivity setting?
