Alright, so last night I was at my church for praise band practice. I was playing my active p-bass special. Whenever I hit the open e string I would get this crunchy kind of noise from my amp (Ampeg BA210sp). I think it was coming from the horn. It wasn't loud, but I could still hear it pretty well. I thought maybe I needed to change the battery in my bass, but it didn't help at all. This morning I plugged in my passive jazz bass to see if I got the same reaction. No crunchy noise. I don't know anything about this kind of stuff and am curious to see what you guys say. Should I have the local guitar shop take a look at it?

Anyway, it's likely you are overloading the input of the combo's preamp. Either turn down the input gain on it (select the proper input jack if there are both active and passive ones) or turn down the bass's volume or EQ.
