Curious about Gallien-Krueger 112MBX Extension Cab

Weeeelll, that would be a stretch i think. I have used it in a very small folk club that held 30 or so sit-down folks in the room and it was ok. But mainly i use for house/living room concerts, backing an acoustic guitarist/singer. For that sort of small gig it is plenty loud and definitely a "bass" sound (i play 4-string fingerstyle). If you used two of the 112MBX cabs you would have more capability for sure though i would hesitate to say even two would be adequate for a room/club with 75+ people listening/talking/dancing.

How loud and bassy does it get for you? Club volume?

Well after some more research I decided to get the paragon from gk. I am certainly grateful for the heads up regarding the screw and grommet in the back. My mb150 is one of the originals. The volume control is intermittent so I ordered some new pots. Gk no longer makes the original pots, so you will have to make extensions for the leads. I also discovered that they have changed both the transformer and motherboard. If you are going to get some replacement part, better get to it. The lady in sales sent me a schematic which will be a great help.

I realise that this was a long time ago but I wonder if you remember where you got the grommet from?

Just an update. I sold enough junk on eBay to buy a GK 112MBX from Amazon-- they had a crazy sale day. Also had $100 in gift cards. I got the first one about a week ago. It had a bad voice coil. You could hear that sizzly distortion even at low volumes. But cranked up, it really got loud for a very little guy!

I sent that one back and immediately ordered a second one. Aside from the manufacturing flaw, it sounded deep and clean even with a little more volume. When I get it, I'm going to post a picture of it in the Nano Rigs of Doom... Also, I'll post a pic here...

Responding to some earlier comments, I’ve been using the GK MB200 & 112MBX for about a year after replacing my old 200MB combo. Here’s the rig sitting next to a much bigger sub that the drummer used to amplify his bass drum.

This particular gig was R&B/jazz with a quartet + guest vocalists in a small restaurant, and the sound was definitely happening.

I love this combo and am interested in getting a second 112MBX. I don’t think it would work for music with loud distorted guitars but it’s great for most of my gigs.

Sad to report that I returned my 112MBX. On the low E string the A (5th fret) was very hollow and distorted. The metal grill vibrated loudly, but I could stop it vibrating by holding my hand on the grill. Obviously I couldn't do that playing a song. BTW I bought from Sam Ash and they were excellent on sending out return labels etc.

I wish there was something equivalent. I've kicked around looking at the DNA DNS112 but it's over twice the price. I'm looking for something very small but very powerful.

I had a pair of these cabs, and gigged with them quite a lot from 2001 to about 2009. I installed a crossover in each and with each I used a Dayton ribbon tweeter which would magnetically attach to the cab on edge.

I used it with a AI Clarus, and if I took one cab instead of two I could walk to gigs with my bass, Clarus head and cab. Sonically and weight wise, it was a great 8 years with the GK aluminium cabs, it was convenient and enjoyable but on comparison my 3 way cabs sounded much fuller; though have to say the Gk cab (modified with tweeter& crossover) did not offend the ear.
