Current Project: Headless 4

That looks pretty cool!

Does the figure still move with the light, or is it kind of "locked in?"

I would say it is locked in somewhat, not enough that it doesnt move with the light just enough where you can see it better from most angles.

With the black applied, although it looks more purple from the camera flash. This dye was thinned 50% more than normal so not to cover up too much of the higher grain.

Last coat of purple, this is still wet in this picture it will dry a little lighter in color. You can look at the first purple pic and this one and see what all that sanding back does. It really did wonders for this $18 top. Also notice that I unknowingly got a drop of superglue on the screwholes by the bridge/tuners and the dye wont penetrate there. :scowl: Oh well that and the pup holes will get a shot of black. :D

Well, these are also aniline dyes, just water soluble. I picked these strickly for the ease of mixing and cleanup. Plus as opposed to alcohol, water is cheap. The alcohol soluble dyes are supposed to offer a little more protection against UV ray fade out but I dont know many players that leave their gear in the sun for extended periods anyways. Heres a link to the dyes.

Heres a few more pics with 8 coats of poly and the hardware laid out. The hardware worked wonderfully during mockup. really smooth and intonated great. The neck will get 4 coats of satin poly and I will wetsand the bass and spray another 8 coats when its cured. (A few days) In the meantime I'll set up the electronics. Since budgets low this will be a dual volume/ dual tone setup with stacked tone knobs, a Neutrik locking jack and of course the Led setup for the fiber optics

What's wrong with Prince?

Anyway, I like that bass a lot - I'm extremely excited about that headless setup; I've followed since your first post about it.

Thanks for the kind words and nothings wrong with Prince he's a heck of a musician, I just dont think my bass looks like this. :hmm:

Just a little update for those interested, The bass is almost complete. I decided to wire it up with a 2 volume 1 tone setup that includes a push pull pot (tone) to throw the pups from parallel to series. This turned out great but the bridge pup is DEAD:bawl: SOOOO I have decided to build my own pups which will be a first for me. Also I decided to go with some poplar knobs instead of the originally planned brass. Ill post pictures of its current state 2morrow. :D
