Curt Mangan Flats and String Through

This is a bit of a niche question - hope someone has experience. I have a 51 RI Precision Bass (tele bass). It is string through only. I am interested in knowing if anyone has ever strung these through body before and they fit? Based on measurements and talking with Curt Mangan (they offered measurements, but did not have a string through bass in the shop so they think it’ll probably work) I think it’ll work. Just wondering if anyone had real-world experience before I pull the trigger. Thanks for any thoughts in advance!

Aside from the actual length factor, it's also important to keep in mind that some flatwound strings will break if they are strung through the body, due to their flexibility or lack thereof (similarly if the main, outer winding starts to go around the tuning post). Labellas are notorious for this -- though you can get lucky with them, but then there's the risk of it happening at any moment.
Just mentioning this because I've experienced it first hand with LaBellas. Can't speak to Curt Mangans though and I imagine they would be aware of this issue if it affected their strings and they would have warned you upon mention of going string-through... but, if they were kind of unsure about the answer to your question, you never know!

Yes, thanks for that. When I spoke to them, they thought string through was not an issue- they even thought putting standard scale flats on a medium scale bass would be ok, for the most part. They said to take it slow but it should work.

Honestly I know the ultimate answer is to pull the trigger and find out - they just tend to be some of the most expensive flats I have seen (not TI expensive, but still) and so I’d rather not fail at an expensive experiment if I can avoid it.

Very smart to contact them first! If there is an issue and they do break, I'd imagine they'll work with you in some way, since you were thoughtful enough to reach out ahead of time.
