Curtis Novak's Darkstar bisonic pickup...

Would anyone here be able to send me a picture of their DS wiring? I have the one with no terminals, just the long wire and I can not for the life of me get it to produce any sound. THe pickup has been back to curtis and he says its all good. It's probably me...

I just got my order from Curtis. They're going into a SS Lakland Hobo. I went with the tap option, to switch between Guild Bisonic and DS values. I'm pretty psyched, as the bass off the shelf is already incredible. The Lakland pickup positions seem to line up very much like the Starfires. But as a hunk of wood? The Lakland has a lot more bottom and a lot more growl. So like I said, I'm psyched.

I bet you are!

You will have to post about the tap option in the lakland owners group forum....I am very interested to see what you think....

For those putting these in a P bass, what are you doing for a pickguard? Cutting a regular P guard yourself? Or does someone make one?

I have a Roadworn P body that I butchered to fit a darkstar. I abandoned the project, but now am thinking of the Novak Bisonic for it. I have everything except a pickup and pickguard.

Just received my Curtis Novak pickup the other day. Below is a photo of it installed in my 1965 Guyatone EB-4. Absolutely in love with this pickup. Wired for bisonic output (in the low teens, as discussed above). The bass is now unbelievably close in tone to the 1966 Guild Starfire bass I used to own. In the past I've had several Dark Star pickups and original Hagstrom Bisonics, as well as a Hanson CS (chi-sonic). I could not be happier with this Novak pickup. To my ears, in comparison to the Dark Star pickups I've owned, this one is warmer/mellower and closer to the original Hagstrom Bisonic tone. Some people like the more aggressive DS tone, but for me, my playing style, and applications, mellower is better in this case. Certainly not to say that I didn't love my Dark Stars too though. Anyway, hoping to have some demo clips up soon.
Two thumbs way up when it comes to these pickups!
