Curtis Novak's Darkstar bisonic pickup...

The Novak bisonic has found its way into a different bass (my "Trained Wild Animal" bass), which is now my main player, and can be seen/heard in this video of a recent show that we played:

Let me know what y'all think!
My bass rig is a Peavey VB-2 head into a Peavey 1x18 cab... so make sure to use good speakers or headphones to get the full effect

What happened to the Guyatone?

The Guyatone is still with me. It's a lovely instrument, but it's limited by not having a truss rod for neck adjustments. It sets up pretty decently, but my "Trained Wild Animal" plays like butter. So as an experiment I tried the pickup in the other bass and fell in love.
On a side-note, I also have quite a love for Dimarzio Model One pickups and miss having one in my stable. So most likely, the Guyatone will be getting one of those sometime in the near future.

Does she have a date for the prom?!?

I promise to have her back by 2 am...

Beautiful! I have a friend here in Nashville that asked me about pickups for his modded vintage Coranado earlier this week. I pointed him towards these pickups. It makes a lot of sense to me.

Cool bass, Curtis!

Finally got around to installing the Darkstar pickup I bought last year at this time.
I put it in my '71 Hagstrom HIB and no routing was involved. Had a new pickguard and some risers made by Greasy Groove, new pots and some large knobs from some crazy 70s diy radio kit. Scored a Hagstrom/Guild bass bridge off a body of a Univox Badazz bass. The stock black saddles were too short so ordered some taller rosewood saddles from guildbassparts.
Sounds monstrous even with the pickup height at 7/32" from the strings. Anyone know what the ideal height for these hot pickup?
