Custom 5 string for Alex

I...Curious why you didn't put a bloct at the 24th fret. That's the only thing that appears odd to me.

It was a decision we made because I wasn't comfortable dealing with less than 1/8" 100% endgrain piece without it breaking up. Also the area between the fret slot and the inlay was way too fragile. We kept it safe and Alex likes the look anyway.

How are you getting the pots & switches to go through all the thickness of body (even back-routed closely to the face) & pickguard? Seems like a stretch.
...

Not really. The controls are not attached to the pickguard. I left the normal thickness on the top face (about 3/16") and the controls are attached there. The pickguard is drilled so that it would just go over the controls passing through them.

Impressive bass top to bottom.Pesonally I prefer it without the pic guard not a criticism just a preference.
Alan

Thanks Alan, if it were criticism I always try to take it positively as things to improve. Especially when they come from the more gifted ones as yourself.

Looks like a combination of a Fender, Musicman, Bergantino, and Benevente, really cool meld of styles into one bass.

Thank you, thank you very much.

Here's a sound clip. I'll post pics when I get some light outside to shoot them.

Please pardon the sloppy playing ...I just picked up the tune by ear prior to recording the clip.

Beautiful work!

I too have a bass on order that will have wood block inlays, so you're making me psyched for the end product even though I don't think my build has started.

Mine will also be maple, but only blocks at 5 & 12, and to be done from the same piece as the top wood and to be finished as the body/pickups/headstock will.

Its really stunning to see it all in action on that neck, though!
