Custom Bass Wait Support Group Needed [Part 3]

Nice! You won't be sorry about that decision. I'm still making decisions on my next Ristola 6. I'm thinking Cherry body, maple neck, ebony board with narrow string spacing, 26 frets and a 33" scale length. Should be a beauty. Looking forward to seeing yours when it's done.

Brian Ristola is buiding me my dream 6-string bass.

Here are it's specs:

Alder body with a figured bubinga top. 35" scale. Maple/purpleheart neck with inlaid graphite stiffening bars, bone nut, and a bird's eye maple fingerboard. 2 Bartolini quad coil pickups and an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp. Ebony knobs. Black Hipshot A-style bridge and Ultralite tuning gears. Schaller straplocks.

My bass will look similar to this bass from the Gallery Section of Brian's website:

This is the bubinga that will be used for it's top wood:

I'm thinking it will be ready this September! :bassist:

emjazz,
thanks for your thoughts and encouragement when I asked you about Brian's basses a few months ago. I've really enjoyed working with him.

I'm hoping you go through with your new Ristola 6. Your specs sound really nice. Brian said he'd send me progress pics, I'll be sure to post them!

Talk to you soon,

Thanks! Scott French was not an influence at all, the shape was mostly designed by my wife (she tweaked and tweaked my original design, which was influenced by the jazz archtop guitar shapes, until it didn't resemble the original at all), but I'll take the SF reference as a compliment since I've always admired his amazing work.

It's got target coatings super clear 9000 polyurethane. It's the first time I'm using it and the bass was just strung up yesterday so I can't say how well it'll hold, but I was assured by the manufacturer (Jeff Weiss, owner) that it should hold up as well as marine epoxy, and the SC9000 is a lot easier to apply (just spray it with the rest of the body)
RE: SF, that is totally a compliment, he's a really innovative builder.

I'm going to spent a a couple month's letting my jazz's FB get eaten by round wounds till I decide if I'm going to put SC9000 on ... Probably in that amount of time, I'll check in with you to see how your FB is holding up.

well I can tell you that so far it's been a lot better than epoxy. Not even scratches, which epoxy exhibits with roundwounds after only a couple of playing sessions. I've been playing the thing at rehearsal (monday night) and playing along with songs, including metal (aggressive stuff), and not even a scratch on it! Jeff was right.

2 more months and I'll be out!!!! :hyper:

Here's the first shot I recieved from Dave on my new Single Cut 4 Banger! Colobolo top, Red Oak Body, Flame Maple/Purpleheart neckthrough with a Birdseye maple neck. I'm going with gold Hipshot hardware, Nordstrand DC Pickups, and an Aguilae OBP-3 Preamp. I can't freakin wait!!!!!

After a long break from building, Nick is back!!! He's taking orders now and will probably start going retail only after next summer.

The Rob Allen should be really cool, too. After I got my Conklin, I had a big itch for the 6. Perhaps I should have ordered one from the git go!

Would you mind PM'ing me Nick's email address? Thanks!
