You will have to post a “family” shot.

I had a hard time envisioning that (“KSC”) design looking right, (being made so much wider)--
Leave it to Wilser to make it work!

I’ll be joining these impressive ranks again fairly soon.

Cool Stambaugh. The coffee ring stain could be the start of a trend :D

first pics of my Cliff Bordwell Bass in progress:D
two tone curly maple back and the pink ivory finger board( the one on the bottom ;) )

That pink ivory is rare stuff indeed, what a find!!

I'm sure it's going to be a fantastic instrument.

Thanks for the kind words.

Alan at ACG has a real eye for design and using great materials. Even I thought that the top and fingerboard combination could be a bit OTT. I trusted Alan's judgement and it came out superbly.

Thanks RLK

To be honest, I thought that the Sei would be the only custom bass that I'd ever order. However, when I finally decided that I wanted the 9 I managed to get top dollar for everything that I sold!! I also have a very understanding wife, who sanctioned the spend as well.

I did look at luthiers in the USA, but decided to go with ACG as they had just built ACG 9 number 1. I had no doubts that my 9 string would be just as good as the first. It's a wonderful instrument and I could be more happy with both the service and communication from ACG as well as the quality, feel and sound of the finished product.

BTW, if you read this 7string, will you be changing your username?::eyebrow:

I'll stay as 7 string as the 7 thing runs to my e-mail address as well. I also used to go 10-pin bowling and my shirt has 7 on it as well as the tongue-in-cheek label of "Der Seimeister" :D

I'm back in.

Stambaugh #3 is probably going to get a downpayment sent in the next few months (a fanned fret sixer tuned EADGCF using Chris' "Torrain" shape) but in the here and now, I've sent in a deposit on a traditional six string with Alan at ACG.

I have the feeling it's going to be a beauty.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited. Alan's work looks so fantastic. And my new Stambaugh fretless uses the commercially available ACG preamp which I really, really dig.

In any event, if anyone's interested here's a webpage I set up to send to a few people I wanted to get input from.

I've got most of the bass details worked out, but mostly I'm having trouble picking a top. Mostly because I got sent such amazing choices. One of them (the bubinga) was not one Alan sent me but was lifted from a bass in progress.

FWIW, I like the bubinga best followed by the redwood out of those tops, but I see what you mean about haveing a difficult choice! Nice problem to have...

Well, it’s been 7+ months in Wilser’s queue.
Now I’m back here for a 8-12 month stint.
But I’m getting old, so time goes by more quickly than it has in years past! :D

Ramirez “A-12” Specs:
Neck/ Body/ Measurements
>Dual course 12 string, tuned B to C,
>24 fret Bolt-on Wenge neck (rubbed in finish), with flat Rosewood fingerboard
>Body, PU covers, Peg head face - Cherry tinted Mahogany (glossy finish)
> ~33” scale.
>String spacing (center to center of pairs); 20mm @ bridge, varied @ nut (~10.5mm average)
Hardware
>2 dual-acting truss rods. >Black Delrin (slip-stone) nut.
>Chrome Bridge; Schaller dual course saddles on a Custom chassis;
>Chrome Gotoh (guitar and bass) tuners.
Electronics

A concept rendering ;

I really admire everybody on this group that have waited for so long to get the instrument of their dreams (I hope). IMHO, someone should start a post listing builders and average waiting times.

I'm a proud owner of some luthier basses myself, but I've never had to wait that long, 6 to 8 month being the average waiting time from the first "I'm looking for this and that..." to the "Here's your bass, now pay me"... :)

I'm now waiting for an Alfonso Iturra fretless bass that (hopefully) will be finished in a couple of weeks... maybe a month... I'm pretty excited since this will be my first fretless bass.

No picture, no waiting, so here's some of them:

That's a great idea. I know that build times vary, but it is nice to have a ballpark estimate of what you're getting yourself into. I know most custom orders go very smoothly, but some can go terribly wrong. It would be nice to have a list of custom builders and hear what people have to say about their ordering experience.

My last Jerzy Drozd took a year and a half, and it was worth every second I waited. Plus he told me up front approximatly how long it would take, so I had no problems with that.

For my 2 Minnieweathers, I got the first one in 2.5 years, and the second one is still under construction ( He says it will be finished in March). He makes amazing instruments, but gives you very unrealistic timelines.:rollno:
