Custom Bass Wait Support Group Needed [Part 3]

All I've got (so far) of my Carl Thompson some-frills 5 string. When I paid for it Carl told me "about 6 months"...the official 6 month mark since paid was this past Saturday - 2/28/2009. I need a support group - :help:

CT-Receipt.jpg

.........um....I'm sorry....but is that a 7 in the front of that price....as in $7000???? For a no frills bass? Wow. No thanks.

I guess since I'm here I should say that I have a Ristola 6 string on order. It should be done in May.

Ristola 6 string
33"scale
26 frets
16.5mm spacing at the bridge
2" nut
maple/purpleheart neck
ebony fingerboard
cherry body
figured cherry top
custom Kent Armstrong dual coils
ACG preamp
brass nut and bridge
wooden knobs by David King
black hardware
ramp between the pickups
wooden fingerboard dots

It should be a real beauty. It's slated to be a double cut, but that may change pending the final singlecut design....I've been dreaming up this bass for a few years now so I'm really excited to see the end result.

No it is not, i believe that was a comma sticking out. Carl actually prices his bass's WAY more reasonably than you'll see on the used market. I guess that's why the current wait is somewhere in the 4 to 6 year span.

I'd never pay 7k for a bass, although I've never played a better designed bass than the CT No Frills 4 I recently sold.

Cool....and I realized when I wrote it that I maybe shouldn't have....even if it was $7000, who cares if you were willing to spend that to get the bass that you want. Anyhow, looking forward to seeing what your new bass looks like. I'm sure it'll be wonderful.

...and the only bass I'd spend $7000 on would be a Ken Lawrence Chamberbrase. If I had it I'd give him my money in a heartbeat for a custom Chamberbrase. What an exceptional instrument. I'd put those up there with an outstanding violin or double bass, and you wouldn't have to pay nearly what something like that is worth.

Another amazing bass!
You will have to post a “family” shot.

I had a hard time envisioning that (“KSC”) design looking right, (being made so much wider)--
Leave it to Wilser to make it work!

I knew he could pull it off too. Plus I made it easy for him by making a scale model of the body. I drew it out and then carved it out of heavy sculpting styrofoam. That way I could play with the ergonomics and give him a 3d model for him to work on. He took it from there. Its based on an archtop guitar I used to have... Now I'm waiting and waiting and waiting and... those pics are a month or so old...

I don't know if getting some pictures every now and then actually helps to make the wait more bearable or makes the need for a support group greater.

Got these pictures a couple of hours ago, and now I can't wait to have that bass in my hands.

The bass will be fretless and the lining on the fretboard is just draw with chalk, so it's not a definitive thing, but I don't see that changing anyway. I don't know if that lining design have been used in another bass but I come up with that idea after reading some posts of fellow TB'ers and was refined by Alfonso Iturra, who's making the bass.

Now the pictures:

just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in....fretted 6 coming up from Cliff Bordwell

9 months and counting

my fretless should be here in a couple weeks though:hyper:

That's an outstanding top! I kinda debated snagging that top for my upcoming Rami 6, but my eyes see the Rami with a figured walnut top. I'd think that top would look killer on a C, D, or Ball bass.

I didn't even realize this thread still existed. Right now I'm on the easiest custom wait I've ever had. I'm getting a fretless Elrick singlecut 6 to match my fretted one I got last fall, and the fretted has been so fun to play that I haven't had any waiting pains like I usually get :D The fact that Elricks have a pretty short wait time and mine's going to be finished a bit early is helping I'm sure. Should be getting it in early-mid April.

Dang......that looks like the most delicious piece of fried cheese I've ever seen! Gorgeous top. I guessed a Pope pre before I saw that you wrote it just from the Fodera-type knob layout. Should be very cool.

I was gonna say marble, but I eat a lot of cheese and like it fried!!! :p I'm very psyched to try out the Pope pre. I have the same pickups with a different pre-amp, so the results should be interesting.

Man, there are some really beautifull basses being built these days! I just read that this is an old thread, but its new to me, and i'm chimming in with a "bass in progress" of my own.

Ive been waiting for a couple years on a custom BEE BASS. I orded a 9-String "Stinger" model.

Specs are:

Bookmatched Flame Koa top-

Flame White Limba (korina) body-

Black dyed accent veneer between the top and body-

9-Peice Flame Maple and Purpleheart neck with rock hard Maple tapered center block-

Bookmatched Acrylicised Ebony fingerboard with Flame Maple fingerboard binding-

All black hardware-

Custom wound tripple set of Delano JSBC (jazz/buckers) with a BEE PRE (preamp)
- the pups alone retail for $900.00 USD!!!

The bass is already paid off, so now its just a torturous waiting game..... i'll blend in with the rest of yous.:hiding:

I am waiting for my Alembic custom shop Elan. Exactley like Jason Newsted's!

I placed the deposit back in December of 08. I am awaiting a thread with pics on the Alembic club.

Jason's real Elan was made in 89 and then upgraded to Series electronics and LEDs in 91 so I had to decide which era Elan did I want.

I went with the 89 era that has the J-P-J pickups. It took me hours of reviewing concert footage to make sure specs were 100% correct. Some things that are easily over looked like he had no bridge block and logo placement was under the strings. Also made sure to get the half circle truss rod cover as well.

Here is the bass I am talking about.
