But, the truth is, I have been working with Alan on a bass for a long time. This bass was originally ordered with the idea that it would be a review item (for one magazine, or another

), and furthermore, we decided to track the whole process of ordering a custom instrument. This review will be published in March, but I wanted to at least give a shout-out to Alan and show off this baby a little bit:

The body shape is an amalgamation of some of Alan's designs (yeah, I can be difficult!

), and the body is a spanish cedar core, with this crazy figured okoume top and back. The neck is made from flamed sycamore and macassar ebony. The fingerboard is flamed/spalted (acrylicized) maple. The pickups are custom ACG (made by Aaron Armstrong), and the preamp is a custom, filter-based pre made for ACG by John East. The switches control series/single/parallel coil tapping on each pickup.
I don't want to gush too much now, but let me say that I am very happy with this instrument!
