Custom basses

Another plug for Carey Nordstrand. He is not only a gifted craftsman, he also really knows the instrument and how wood and electronic choices can get you to your goal.

I have had many basses custom made and have played basses from most luthiers. You will not find a better instrument for any price or a more knowledgeable and skilled luthier than Carey.

Good luck!

When it comes to custom work, Alembic is up there with the best of them. On my custom, they put together everything I was looking for in a bass. Check out the Alembic Club via the alembic.com link as to some of their works in progress.

Best of luck putting together your best possible bass.

I'd recommend any of the three luthiers/companies that have built my five basses. Depending on your price range.....

up to $2,500: Jacob Marchlewski (bass in the middle of the picture) Link Removed I'd also consider Chris Stambaugh in this price range.

Up to $3,500: Pete Hanewinckel (the two maple topped 6 string basses)
Hanewinckel Guitars I'd also consider Ken Smith, Jerzy Drozd, Carey Nordstrand and MTD in this price range. I personally would also consider Sadowsky, but you've already said ixnay on the enderfay.

from $3,000 to Withdrawal from Trust Fund: Alembic (The two darker wood basses on the outside of the picture) Alembic I'd also consider Ken Smith, Jerzy Drozd, and Fodera in this price range.

Peace,

James

Id go Marchlewski also... cant beat the bass for the price right now! :)

I've had custom instruments built by two luthiers, Mike Tobias and Kevin Brubaker. I'd buy from either without hesitation. I now work with Kevin.

I also own custom instruments from Chris Stambaugh, Rob Elrick, Fodera, Jamie White (Bone) and Scott Ambush. Not considering any of these would be a mistake IMO:D
