No, not a maple board - ebony board. And the neck wood is maple stained with walnut finish using Danish Oil then orange oil.

No pictures of the neck yet, but it looks fabulous.

Started assembly - put on the bridge, began looking at the wiring for soldering of Bartolini preamp and pickups. Hey, what are those two extra wires? Looked at the diagram, and DUH, they are for the jack. Then I realized there is no jack hole drilled in the bass yet - BRILLIANT!

So sent in an order to Stewmac for jack, knobs, pickup screws and springs. Minor details.

Matthew Nelson had Warwick custom make a Dolphin bass for him in a turquoise finish back in the early 90's. I like the paint job on yours even better.

Disaster! Disaster at the 19th fret!

First time I screw the custom made neck on to the body (6 screws with bushings) I put the neck in place, and tighten the screws down. Then I turn the bass over, and one screw has pushed up the fret significantly and damaged the fretboard!

I back off the screw, and manage to pound back the fret and wood with a rubber mallet into close to the right place, but the damage is done.

Apparently, the neck builder, whose name I won't mention again, miscalculated on the length of the screws. I had shipped him the body to custom-fit the neck.

It's going to be playable, I think, if I don't attempt to take the action too low. But I'm not happy.

Oh well. it still looks good, and hopefully will be usable, Here are some more progress pictures:

you seem to be handling that well! i think i would have just about came unglued!! thats unexceptable.....IMO.....how could the builder of the neck Stephen Cyr, make such a drastic miscalculation, oops did i mention the name you weren't gonna mention again, sorry!

Other than the "Disaster at Fret 19" (I call dibs on that name) that thing is friggin' gorgeous. Maybe try and give the neck builder a call and see what he can do for you? I'm sure he would take responsibility for the miscalculation and offer up some kind of reparation. Either way, play it like hell!
