Now this I like.. it's a touch more goth-metal than I'd want to go, but in general this touches all the bases I wanted to touch... and looks a lot better than my crappy drawing...

It's a nice hunk 'o' wood to be puttin' holes to. Since you seem determined to drill, consider going with a tortise shell style before black. It makes for a better transition IMHO.

Way, way too busy. But it's your bass and who am I to tell you what to do with it?

It shouldn't actually require drilling - the guy who is going to make it for me has some special double sided tape that he has used on PG's before to put them on, with very good results - plus it won't damage the finish if I want to take it off at some point.

What about this - it solves most of the busy-ness issues, I think, and lends a little more classic styling to it. Much more closely resembles the Marcus Miller design but is still unique.

Sorry for the sometimes inconsistent lines and edges, I just can't do a perfect mockup in a half hour.

Something more like a MTD Kensington, suggested in page one. I would personally make this a little slimmer if I were to re-draw it.

These are all extremely rough.

Wow, that's quite a bit more pro-looking than what I've got so far - nice to have the more traditional designs to work with as well. I don't think I'll need a painstaking drawing as the guard maker knows what he is a about and I mostly want to give him a rough idea and let him run with it, but thanks for the offer!

I am all for one doing what one wants and what looks good to them, and to my eye the second pickguard is a lot better, more asthetic shaped pg.

But Lord help me, my first thought was same BAT pick guard, same BAT bass......

Yup, I like the Cruise bass style pickguard the best. That in tort or white pearloid would look great.

Alright - the pickguard has been completed, and here it is installed - I think it turned out quite well!

I don't usually point this out, but I think you're wrong. He said that was a picture of it installed, and I don't see any kind of screws or anything, so it might just like taped on or something. Which is actually a pretty good idea because you can just switch the thing out on the fly with a bunch a different shapes.

Yep, you are correct, no screws, just some kind of special double-sided tape that seems to be adhering quite nicely without any damage to the finish.
