I just acquired what seems to be a Fender Custom Shop Precision Bass. On the back of the headstock it has a Fender Custom Shop decal with Larry Brooks name and "Fender U.S.A." below that.
It has 3 EMG pickups with one volume knob, a 5 way selector switch and a toggle switch. The Fender bridge is very hefty and I am not sure what the neck is made out of. It is dark but does not seem like rosewood.
The electronics seem to be passive as there is no battery compartment. It also has the Hip Shot style detuner on the E string.
The person who gave it to me (it was a gift...) said it was originially owned by Cliff Williams. The bass is in mint condition. It sounds FAT and plays like a dream.
Based on the serial number and some Googling it looks like it was built around 1989 or so. But I really can't find out any other information.
Does anybody have any comments or information that may be of use? I am particulary interested in the configuration of the selector and toggle switches.
