Damn! that's my kind of bass!
How does he hold the pickups in? I don't see any screws from the front or the back.
It looks like he's going to set in the truss rod cover flush. Is that right?
Cool!Yeah the truss rod cover will be flush.
Another something new that I want to see. Also, the nut is going to be pretty neat too. It's going to be a bone nut but he's going to do a cover for it, either ebony or walnut. You'll only see the ends of the the nut on either side of the neck.
Only two months from "finalized the design." Fantastic!Almost done boys. He gave me a call last week, and said he needed one more day to work on it.
OMG! I had no idea Vadim is still making basses. I've had a Vadim 5 string fretless since about '99! It's very special for me because it got me through lots of gigs when i was really sick... I loved the shape of the bass, the reliability and playability of the bass was superb - it played hundreds of gigs! It also got me through hours and hours of practice as I took two years off of university to recuperate.
He was a wonderful guy - I used to visit his workshop when he rented a spot near my house. It was my first fretless and it was a bolt-on! It was actually a prototype for a bass he planned to have made overseas (he removed the frets for me) - a kind of mass-produced Vadim.
Glad to hear he's still making basses... I'll never let go of mine even if I don't play it all the time anymore... Every time I pick it up, I have an emotional connection to it. One day I may change out the Allparts and "Illitch" electronics and put some Barts in there...

Dare I ask for pics of said ... TEN YEAR OLD (almost) Vadim??![]()
Sure, as promised, see the pics below... Except there's a few things to be aware of:
1) It was a prototype for a mass-produced Vadim
2) It doesn't have any of its original hardware except for the pickups. It sat "naked" for a couple of years in his shop before I bought it - this was not a custom build
3) It was originally fretted - I asked that he make it fretless
4) It's been through hundreds of hours of "playing time" and countless rehearsals..
5) It's been packed away for a few years - only occasionally played since 2002
Enjoy:
