Every great creation requires time and effort. Be patient throughout the process and enjoy the zen of the experience. It isn't all as hard as it seems. Many steps, but none too difficult.

If you can play bass than you already have sufficient coordination for operating a solder iron and applying a decal.

Josh if you would like to decorate the Bluebeard pedal buy a Hammond 1590BB ($9-10) (or two so you can practice.)
Maybe etching would give you a satisfying b/w image that wouldn't challenge your artistic abilities too much just a long perfectionist process you would excell in.

I was over at Fromel's place doing etching tests and we put my TAFM on the chopping block. It came out very nice! This will work on anything that's silkscreened over bare metal.

A little late to the game, but... How did you guys do that? I'd love to try it out on my TAFM.

I'd also like to put the decals back on my Submarine Designer, so this thread is super useful.

The etching tutorial posted above is applicable...just dunk it in the acid for 5 minutes or so, wash and then sand the graphic off. The trickiest part was getting the circuit board out of the enclosure - I had to desolder the jacks to get it out.

Vinyl sticker paper with several coats of polycrylic will work just fine. I think Papilio.com has packs of 10 sheets for pretty cheap. They also have a spray on laminate that works great. You could spray paint the enclosure black and then apply the decal.

Taking the guts out shouldn't be that big of a deal. There are lots of folks to help you if you have trouble putting it back together.

I love etching on pedals too. If you end up doing that, I'd love to see it. I think an etched zombie would look amazing.
