I just went back to the original post and actually clicked on the link. The German site sells this amazing device for a steal at 179 Euro, which is, what, something a little over $200 US?

So what I'm trying to figure out is what it does that you can't do with a bit of foam padding, a rubber band, and a vibrator. Seems easy enough to make a poor man's CuteCube, no?

Don't know if I mentioned this before...didn't have time to go through 18 pages

As the strings respond much quicker after treatment you can lower your action and get a fatter and more dynamic tone with no fret buzz striking the strings much softer. I realized that on all of my basses, lowered the action on all of them. Makes you play much faster with fat killer sound

What if my bass already has extremely low fast playing action with fat killer sound. Can I just have the strings lay on the fretboard?

I critically listen to music for my day gig and I don't fool easily.

If you do, buy one of the sub-20-dollar ones and not the $200 model.

The sub-$20 ones are 3w, the $200 one is 20w. I don't know if it makes a difference sound-wise, but at least there is a reason for some of the price difference.

but what kinda headroom do guys typically go for on these? seems like you could crank the master on the 3watt one, but would have more clean headroom w/ the 20w . does the resistance of the density of the wood matter? what is the input sensitivity of the bass's wood and glue?

Hearing a difference just means there is a difference....

The problem being that there are a number of things that could be different, it just takes the OP being excited to play a bass he hasn't played in two weeks and playing with a bit of gusto to make things sound different...

The issue isn't the playback system or ears, it's that we can't verify the difference is the CuteCube... too many variables..

I'd be interested in trying it if the risk wasn't being out $200 bucks, as well as two weeks without an instrument, or a fantastic DIY project...

There is a London professor who has done work with spruce I believe showing change in resonance with a fake 'play in' that is suppose to emulate play in on a violin... his conclusions from his studies... don't know about a consensus..

Whether that makes a difference in a solid body, electric instrument is going to be a debate... I think some folks are firmly in the "it is an acoustic instrument first" and others are in the "It is an electric instrument/wood doesn't matter" camp, and many are in between...

As far as playing faster or easier.... I don't see 'stiffness' (OP) or how the instrument plays being all that different, short of maybe something along the lines of 'response', inspiring, or some other psycho-acoustic mojo.

Spend your money however you want but I don't buy a word of it. Show me a significant improvement backed up by a rigorous double blind study and I will switch sides in a flash, but in the meantime I class it with all the other snake oil schemes designed to separate the gullible from their cash. As for the files, we have no way of knowing what caused any differences in them that you are hearing (or think you are hearing - are you listening blind yourself?).
