CWB 20: Babes and Barbarians

We generally play 3-4 weekends every month but had agreed long ago to keep December pretty much blocked off so we're only playing once between now our New Years gig. We got together last night to discuss what we are going to do as we have a little time to deal with his absence . Johnny's seat will not be filled (except by him), we will carry on until he can return.

It really was surreal having to talk business but we had to do it.

We have to rework all our harmony's to replace his tenor part and drop the bluegrass & Cajun material as he was the driving part of that. The traditional country he sang can be covered by material on the standby list while we look for new material. We'll also be doing some more of the classic 60's material that goes over well with the crowds we play for. It won't be the same though, the songs he was featured on were some of our best material.

Our drummer lives close to him so he's been taking him to all his appointments as Johnny's driving ability has been affected. The only relatives he has left are an elderly aunt & uncle in our town and a cousin in Manitoba.

We're pretty much the only family he has and are trying to help out any way we can.

Sorry to hear about your friend, but it sounds like you guys are helping out and being supportive of him in every way you can.

Sore and happy, the after-effects of having too much fun. I think it is my very favorite state of being. :)

Except for after that night with FM. I was happy, but in the morning I kinda wished I was dead for awhile there, LOL. There IS such a thing as having too much fun... (Of course, I won't hesitate to do it all again when I get another chance...)

Thanks PA. When the whole project is complete, some time in January, Ill mail out some CDs to peeps that want one. I'm pretty excited about the whole process.
How's your band coming along? Any upcoming gigs?

It's been crazy busy in my world. I drove to Richmond a week ago and brought back Jackie's parents the next day. On Wednesday we saw BB King. Thursday went ate some turkey at home with just the four of us. Friday I covered the front of the house in Christmas lights. Saturday we had another Thanksgiving celebration at a cousin's house because it's the first day that we could get everyone together. Sunday Jackie drove back down to Richmond with her parental units. I went to lunch with Daniel Glass. (The drummer for the Royal Crown Review and the Brian Setzer Orchestra and a buddy of mine.) Sunday night I went to see the Brian Setzer Orchestra's holiday show. Today I spent recovering.

Setzer and his band were freaking amazing. The opener was a band called "Totsy". Also very cool. Their bassist needs to post in the "I back a hot singer babe" thread by the way.

No kidding, she's HOT!

I had a decent weekend. Celebrated Thanksgiving twice, had a kid-free weekend, and spent more money than I wanted to.

I am refraining from putting up lights or the tree until we're actually in the month of December. I like Christmas and all, but the commercialization of the holiday has gone waaaaaaaay too far.

Sounds like an awesome show. Is it February yet? I can't wait for the drive north to Reading.

I will get FM to take care of the Mule's bags for a CD. If I can talk her into it, of course. I think our Po' Monkey has had a very busy holiday. She'll "come up for air" eventually.

There is a possibility that the supply of duct tape in southern IL has been depleted, but I think we may have to reserve judgement on that for a few days. Or maybe their is a Zombie invasion up there. She did say something about a teenager, that's always a life changing experience...

This and this. I will put light up early but they don't get switched on until December 1. Inside the house the tree gets put up not more than two weeks before the day and is gone on New Years Day. Our Great Room has 18' ceilings and our tree is 12' tall. It takes a considerable amount of time to hang all the ornaments.

That and I finally learned how to multi-quote!

Gigs on hold until we get new singer and guitarist up to speed and whole band is learning about 20 new songs. We have a couple of standing invitations to book gigs at a few local venues when we are ready. Singer's also pregnant so we will be off for a couple of months early summer.

I'll PM you my address for the CD, and just so you know, I completely welcome any MoCWB or CWB stalkers. ;)

mrs C3's birthday is Dec. 29. So we can't quite follow your plan, as good as it sounds.

looks like we're renting a house as a family, up in Vermont (Stratton), for Dec. 27 - Jan. 1, which will include celebrations for that birthday and New Year's.

I'm not much of a fan of the "holidays", but I don't want to be debbie downer around here. On Christmas Eve, though, I do get to cook the seven fishes dishes and then, this year, resume my keyboard career accompanying the Christmas carol singing by the multitudes at our house.
