CWB 20: Babes and Barbarians

I think you'd like it Chuck. I was really late getting to the last one and missed most of th people but DrunkHeffalump brought a ton of basses from really cool to wild and crazy. Too bad I did not have time to mess with any. But a few guys liked messing with my JetGlo 4003 and Fender P (since departed).

I'm taking a load of my own this time and picking up another TBer on the way in my truck. And I'll get there on time for this one.

Hey, we tried this song a bit tonight. I had the vid running on my iPhone on my music stand (plugged into the PA so the band could listen) when I realized the singer was also a CWB.

To be honest I was not a fan of the song when it came out but playing it was fun!

We also did "Little Green Bag" . Wanna talk about a bass line that is fun to play?

Also did Wild Nights, Psycho Killer (one of my faves) and I Will Survive. For reference I pay a bass line much like Cake's bass player in their version but we play it up tempo so it is very busy and I get a solo where I dig in hard and really make it pop.

Great times! Our lead guitar had gear issues, presumably with the jack on her Strat so she played my Strat tonight. Could not say enough nice things about it. It really is an amazing guitar. So well built. It's a MIJ Strat that had great action set-up and playability but came with crappy pups, switches and pots. I replaced all of them and it is now an amazing kick ass guitar that plays like butter and has tone and sound out the ying yang.

Sorry for slipping to the dark side but I swear any of your Guitards would drool and beg to own this Strat.

just got the call to play upright for three hours next Saturday night - jazz standards, no practice, just bring your Realbook and go. hey - it's a paying gig, I'll take it. Plus there's been kind of a dearth of opportunities jazz-wise lately.

the night before that is our dance gig at Vassar - I'm really looking forward to this and hope we do indeed get people dancing. We're doing all our uptempo stuff for this one.

and then it looks like I'm getting called for next Sunday as well, although that's sort of a mini-gig where I sit in with a jazz guitarist friend who plays a restaurant once a month.

So, it looks like gigs Friday, Saturday and Sunday next weekend ... I am pumped, don't think I've ever done that before. :bassist:

Sounds like lots of fun for you, Chuck. I got about 1/3 of the floor done and gave up for the night. My body is screaming and I looked like a golem. Laying tile is not as easy as those guys on HGTV make it look.

@ Mike - I didn't see any turkeys in that picture.

That sounded pretty good - but I maintain that the drunken sandman scares me because I'm afraid he'll pass out while he's throwing sand and do some kind of serious damage to either me or the wall.

Man, that song brings back so many memories for me. I was 19 and had just been stationed at Camp Pendleton. There were so many wild nights...

Lol..if you listen closely at the beginning, you can hear me growling and yelling something in German.

Drunken Sandman is nothing to fear..he'll just wander aimlessly until he finds a nice place to plop down and rest.

Tat, send the message. If he is there I will pass it on.

This one came up pretty fast actually. DH had tried to organize another in the west end bt I think the venue he chose was not favoured by most. I know it was a PITA to get to for me and contributed to my lateness. Though he is a great Dude and went way out of his way to make it a good event.

Tomorrow is just east of Downtown but I hav not seen day on the confirmed list. Shame really because he has a lot of gear and knowledge that he is very willing to share.

I don't post here very often but I've been sub'd to it for a long time. You guys always seem to find a way to put a smile on my face. When someone is going through a bad spell (Drummer I don't know how you've made it through the last year) the support shown is incredible.

A couple of weeks ago I posted about the fiddle/mando/acoustic picker in our band having been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

The CWB community was extremely kind in putting him in their prayers/thoughts and wishing him the best.

He's been playing the gigs we've had. Even though he couldn't play his instruments he was still singing fine but got tired as the night wore on. After our first set last night he told us he wasn't able to go any further and would have to step off the stage. He then informed us the tumor is large, cancerous and inoperable.

He hasn't given up, he's on medications to try to reduce/slow the growth and they are exploring radiation therapy once they do a biopsy but the prognosis is extremely grim and the "cure" even worse. He told us he is OK with the hand he has been dealt and is still his usual kind, gracious self.

While I'm not a spring chicken (I remember when I could remember the 60's) I can honestly say I've never had to deal with a close friend having a terminal illness. I just wish I could be half as gracious as he is.

Mr Blender, I'm so sorry. I don't have words except to say that my thoughts are absolutely with you guys. This year has been one for the books, but I've learned a lot. In a nutshell, be there for him and do your best to make him laugh and make him comfortable. Let him know how much his friendship has meant to you through the years. We don't get a do-over in this world. All you can do is share love and kindness.

Yes, the men and women of CWB are a great bunch and I know how much the support of all of you have meant to me this year.

You absolutely have 100% support, thoughts and prayers headed your way. If you need a sounding board, just say the word.

wow, SB, that is tough news to hear. there is no one road map with a path to follow for this. I'd try to be as supportive to him and his family as possible, obviously, and to include him in your music as much as possible for as long as possible. Not that this will provide solace, but "Box of Rain" by the Grateful Dead is the bass player's song to his father who was dying at the time, and it puts into a song some of the things you think about.

I'm glad that he is still fighting it. You're a good friend to stay by his side.

illustrated plan for a 3-gig weekend. Friday night is an all rock n roll dance at Vassar. Just one bass for this.

Stingray 5 through that Genz Benz Streamliner 900. Lose the dog and that compressor, try to pick up the whiskey later.

Phase 2.1: Big Mama for at least the first set at the jazz gig up in Hudson NY on Saturday night. And, oh yeah, I'll be wearing those boots thanks to my footwear advisors here on CWB.

However, I don't think I can go three hours with Big Mama (no comments please) so I'll bring along the '78 fretless P with the little Genz Benz and the EBS reverb unit to be my second set backup for Phase 2.2:

and if I do the Sunday night thing (Phase 3), it will be just one set with the '78 fretless P. So, three basses, but if I'm lucky one girl for all three. Although three girls would be even better:
