No lutefisk on your table, eh Thor?
I just looked up the Thorrablot menu..ewwwwwwwww.
I really don't have any Christmas traditions, other than consuming more than a few beers and then setting stuff out before passing out.
Lutefisk is Norwegian, not Icelandic. We have our own set of inedible stuff as you have now discovered. I TOLD you not the look that up.
You know, my Nordic Brother, you would have thought that all this freaking drama would have lessened at this point in our lives...go figure.
I always thought so to, that as I got older things would smooth out and settle down. That is diametrically opposed to the reality of the situation.
I do not uphold any of the traditions of Christmas that I grew up with. The annual Christmas Family Fight just wasn't endearing or emotionally satisfying enough to keep around.
So..this year, I'm taking a few days off work and taking a road trip back home to visit my grand babies and see their excitement, then I'm going to take a couple of days for a Thumpketeer event in Chicago, and drive back to celebrate one of the granddaughter birthdays, then coming back home to ring in the new year with live music and poor decisions. Probably drink that night till my check liver light comes on......it'll be relaxing.
Check Liver Light. Perfect, I have a co-worker that would love that, a RatShack project box, a battery, and LED and some kind of intermittent circuit. That waould make a great homemade gift.
A few days off from work is the perfect time to drive a couple thousand miles. Especially around the holidays.
Tell me, how do I interpret the Richter scale again?
Thank Odin I remembered to take my pills this morning.
I didn't want anyone hospitalized with heart irregularities or stroke this close to the holidays.
Messaged you for details.
It's been 4 hours, should I call my doctor or a press conference?
i dont go out for New Years. Too many hard-core partiers and people in general for this introvert.
I did go out dancing last night to blow off the stress of the crappy practice. So today i'm in a better mood. Stole some kisses from a friend, had a few beers, flirted a bit and danced my ass off shakin my boobs at the bass player... just a general good night out
Every bassist should have an audience like that. Lucky guy!
The only time I go out on New Years is when I'm getting paid for it. Otherwise generally a quiet night at home, maybe a couple of friends over.
Interesting about the introvert part. I am pretty much as well (maybe reserved is a better word) except when I'm on stage. I'm looking forward to next spring when I get a new hip & can get back to prowling around the stage.
What is hip? Tell me Tell me.
Thats sounds fantastic...I would love to partake (no joke).
I do some simple things to keep the Scandinavian side alive for my gilrs. Glögg is avaliable for every cold weather holiday and we hit Nordic fest / Yuletide festivals every winter.
There is one this Saturday in Boston at the Cyclerama building. Its funny because its somewhat of a conservative crowd at these Nordic fests but you see a lot of pseudo pagan traditions going on at them.
Xmas is celebrated with us, but we one tradition is bring the family and some hot Glögg to the beach. I don't care if its a blizzard, we are there.
Very cool...Lets us know how that works out.
There is always more then enough work out there for us out there...Its the right work to take, and thats always another story.
The more booze you pour into them the less 'conservative' they get. We Scandinavians are not unfriendly, we are just standing in the corner waiting to be introduced.
The jam turned out to be righteous. This cat was an IT guy for a local bank, so when I walked in he looked surprisingly normal. He was very accomplished and could totally hang without being way louder than anyone else. Showed with a Les Paul and a beat up Fender Twin, which was a bit muddy. We hooked him up with a Mesa Boogie and his tone was awesome.
The guy was a chainsmoker so he had to run out every half hour to poison his lungs, but we started at 7 and played till midnight nonstop other than the smoke breaks. He fit in with us perfectly and is back for Friday, and I have just the right drummer in mind to call.
Total surprise, I have to hand it to my guitarist he qualified the guy really well.
The new guy was playing with a few Berklee grads that do nothing but argue endlessly about the nuances of the Led Zeppelin songs they have played 300 times, so a basic free form 'get down and show me what you got to go with this groove' jam really appealed to him, and he really got fired up after the first 30 minutes when we all got the mix, tone and groove into the pocket.
Major musical breakthrough.
