What type of music are they playing where the "advanced" skill set was required?

I've seen your clips and I'd think you could cover all those tunes no problem. I agree with C3; sometimes its about more than just the music. There have been a number of bands that I felt more than qualified for but didn't get the gig. It happens. Trust me, its for the best. When you find the one that fits, you'll rock it my brother!!

I am doing fine. I had an appointment with the VA (Veteran's Administration) to assess an injury that I had sustained while in Somalia. A vehicle hatch that weighs a couple hundred pounds (and spring assisted) slammed on my left arm at the tricep. It did not break my arm or even crack the bone, but it was extremely painful. Fast forward almost twenty years, and I am experiencing pain, numbness, and tingling from the tricep area down to the pinky and adjacent finger on my left hand. Un-treatable, says the doctor.

changing the subject - I am not satisfied with my current 5-strings. I want a B string that's just as musical as the other four strings, and I don't want to be limited to modern or aggressive tone - being a vintage guy, I like that vintage sound. I've been trading posts with a lot of TBers and Lakland is definitely in the mix. This is a beaut but I am not going to pay full price (versus used) without being satisfied on the 35" scale, the vintage tone options and the B string intonating like I want. There is zippo presence of Lakland in NY though. Sounds like a *road trip* to Chicago is in order. God knows when, I'm swamped. But I'm putting it on my list.
Sadowsky's shop is 15 minutes from my office and I may check that out too. (Fodera's shop is 15 minutes from my Bklyn house but I don't think that's the answer.) But I feel a Chicago trip coming on. May be hard to explain to Mrs C3. Like ... there's a bass out there somewhere, also someone named Furry Monkey ...

I'm kinda confused on what you mean about your B-string being as musical as the others. Are you referring to that the B sounds muddy as you move up the neck (past the 7th fret) ?

Tonight I played a gig with Feral. The bassist has a Spector and a Paul Reed Smith. He also has a Musicman Stingray that he has played at our last few gigs. I really liked it and he said that he was looking to sell it. I told him that I'd love to have it but I don't currently have the cash. I told him that I have a few drums that I'm going to be selling. The short of it is that we worked out a trade. I'm trading him a set of Gretsch Catalina Birch for this 1995 Musicman Stingray.

no, more generally, I find that on my Stingray HH 5, which I otherwise love, the intonation (basically the tuning and tone) of the B string is unreliable even on frets 1-5. I don't hear a difference in intonation from the A string to the E string, and I don't want to hear any difference from the E to the B.
"muddy" is another way to say it, I guess. But to me it's that I want switches from one string to another to be seamless in terms of intonation, and I'm not getting that on the 'Ray moving from the E to the B. I want to find a fiver where that's not an issue.

DT, I know you said you are past it, but honestly the guy was probably paying (or trying to) a nice compliment. Hard to be rejected but in only 2 years you have accomplished tons!
