Probably my favorite musical artist. Insanely funky, brilliant and beautiful songcraft, and a creative Artist with integrity. Could not love him more.

“Untitled (How Does It Feel)” is one of the greatest masterclasses on laying back on the feel as a bass player (all the player really though, on this one). Apparently that bass part was played by Raphael Sadiiq, which is wild, considering the other monumental bass talent on the album, Pino.

I dare anyone to find me a track where the band plays further behind the beat. It’s astonishingly tasty. I play it to musicians who haven’t heard it, or didn’t pay much attention to it, quite often, almost as a rite of passage to a true mastering of expressiveness.

Raphael Saadiq is a good bassist, I was not surprised.

I was lucky enough to see him live in 2015, when he toured to support Black Messiah. Such a great show. I hope there will some posthumous material released.

Honestly I don't know why I rarely hear about him, considering he's not just one of the best guitarists of his generation, but straight up one of the top guys in the world. Unique and recognizable style, dude should be a household name.

I suppose we can see it as yet another gift D'angelo gave the world.

I saw (and met) him at a small show in Portland. He was absolutely astonishing. He played everything from Benson to EVH and was entertaining to boot. he's THE guy these days.

That is such an overlooked album, way ahead of its time.
