D'Addario Chromes, Med or Lights?

I very much like that Daddario sell Chromes in singles at sensible prices. I like putting together a 45-65-85-105 set, but I've also had a balanced set 45-60-80-105, which is I think what I would recommend.

That 45-60-80-105 set would be $45.10, for example.

I thought a .55 D string might be even better than a .60, but I used the tension calculator on D'Addario's website and it turns out a .55 D string only has 32.6lb of tension compared to 48.1lb on the .60 D. Weird!

The .055 produced a much better set, with all the strings having a more balanced feel to them. Maybe things have changed.

I currently have an old set from '03 that has been on a few different basses on my Guild B-301.

45 — 47 lbs (from the 45-100 set)
60 — 48 lbs (from the 40-100 set)
80 — 46 lbs (from the 40-100 set)
105 — 43lbs (from the 50-105 set)

I will go with something like 45-105 for a P-Bass. Lighter than that it feels to loose at the pup spot. Unless you play at the bridge with a P...

I just put together a custom set from Strings by mail .com, 45-60-80-110, for a 35" Modulus in D standard. Should end up with similar tension to a light gauge 100-40 roundwound set tuned standard on a 34" bass. The bass is being fixed currently but will report back when its set up again

Although TI Flats are my most favorite string, 2nd place are the D'Addario 40 60 75 95. They sound excellent and the string tension doesn't max out my truss rod. The 40 60 80 100 are my #3.
