D'Addario Chromes User Group- Chromeys Speak Out!

Cool, glad it worked out. My Kinal has white copper nylons on it and I bought a greenhornet set of golds, waiting for my Custom Drake hollowbody to show up and see how they work, I slapped them on my Smith but that was a bad experiment. Also ordered a 6 string set of Chromes so I can compare and contrast..
I have a Squier CV 60's Precision wearing Chromes right now. I think it's a perfect match.
I do have a question for the group. On page 1 or 2 someone mentioned that they had Chromes on their ABG. My ABG currently wears a very old set of EB Slinky. With the Chromes having more tension than Slinky's (at least that's my perception), would Chromes be okay on an ABG? What is the tension like on the Light set? Any sonic differences to the 105s?

If you want to try a set of Chromes that is similar in tension and overall playing feel, you can either try the ECB84 (40-60-80-100) factory set or put together a custom balanced-tension set, 40-55-75-100.
The ECB84 would be only slightly more than the D'A EXL170BT Nickel Rounds (45-60-80-107) and the custom set slightly less in overall tension (pulling weight on the neck).

have you noticed the volume seems a bit down on the magnetic pu compared to the piezo? Probably inherent in the string. I can compensate vol wise in the pre.
I have a set of 40-55-75-95 Chromes on my ABG and they sound great, no problems with the neck either.
The Custom Drake has not arrived yet but it will be the only bass with both piezo and magnetics. The Kinal only has piezo and my other basses only have mags. Most basses with both have a trim pot to get a unity gain; maybe there is an internal adjustment you can make? With my Smith the output seemed slightly lower then with steel strings but I honestly didn't pay much attention.
Just got to source them now. None of my local places carry anything but the medium gauge.
Thanks for the clarification. I'm guessing an AGB will be a great sound with Chromes.
Thanks. I just didn't want there to be too much tension on the acoustic neck/body/bridge.
I can cope with the added tension on my Precision, but on the ABG I like to have less than that.
BassStringsOnline, Jason is a good guy to deal with and a member on TB (slapindafunk or something like that).
Don't blame you, I had an ABG (Kramer Ferrington) that pulled the bridge up and eventually off from too much string tension. I stick to low tension strings with the replacement (Takamine). Either superlight gauge or tapewounds or TI flats...don't want to go through that again!
Hey y'all. After using TI Flats for many years, I am now rocking chromes on my Peavey Fury. I modded this bass with a EMG Geezer Butler and 105 -50 chromes and used it for a recording session last week. The producer artists, and myself loved the tone. Much better than with rounds on for that song. Obviously not every song. I need rounds on my Jazz bass and Stingray. I am curious about Labella low tension flats. Can anyone compare the two?
I was noodling on an Ibanez at a music expo in March, that happened to strung with D'Addario Chrome Flats. They felt so amazing that I immediately ordered a set for my fretless. I absolutely love the feel and playability of these strings!
I've had a set of ECB81M on my violin bass for the last year, and still loving them. 
So are the band, I was informed when I suggested using one of my other basses that it was ok at rehearsals but for gigs it had to be the violin bass. (60s band so it fits the image perfectly, sounds right, and apparently we have gained a reputation as the band with the violin bass, no one told me!)

When people start identifying a band by what kind of bass is being played, then you've got it made as a bassist!
