I was informed by Lemur Music today that D'Addario in their infinite wisdom, has decided to discontinue manufacturing the ENR71-5SL Super Long Scale Strings. As far as I know, these are the only Half Round Strings that will pass through the body of my Lakland 55-94. In one fell swoop they have effectively ruined my ability to play that instrument. At the very least, they could have given me time to stockpile some sets.

It drives me nuts when companies discontinue products without giving customers a heads up. I hope you can get some strings somewhere!

I checked around and I think I found a few sets, but after the NOS stock is gone I'll have to switch to shorter strings that I can't pass through the brass ferrules in the back of the back of the body. Opinions varry as to whether this makes a difference in the sustain or not, but I've always liked the way the Lakland 55-94 sounds when it's strung that way.

There is NO indication of this from D'Addario.

They have many sets in stock and the item does not have any indication of being on closeout.

I will also follow up on this with the product specialists I speak with every day at D'Addario.

Last night, just out of curiosity, I sent an email to D'Addario customer service. I got a very quick reply late this morning that they did not discontinue the string and a file of stores where I could purchase them. Apparently, Lemur got it wrong, I have order several sets through another supplier. It's all good from my end.
