D'Addario new for 2013 thread!

I wouldn't use them if I didn't like them ;) so yeah, they feel nice to me. I went back to rounds after a couple years of flats, too. There's just something about rounds that works for me live. YMMV.

Had my first gig with the EXL 160BT's (4 string set) on my 6xer and added a wound nickel XL's 0.035" and 0.025" for the G and C...Sounded great..articulate , cut and big punch...and the price is great!!..highly recommended!

I've had the set on for about a week now and they are getting better(breaking in) with time!!!!

Little tension loss? (feel looser)...not much though...could be just the break in period and me getting use to them!!
Totally dig them!

I may have to try that as a 5 string set. I've always wondered what a .120 low B would be like. I currently run the EXL 220BT's: .040 .055 .070 .095 .130T

Really digging these strings! Quality, tone, and price are unreal!

New products from D'Addario now available!

Black Nylon Tapewound High-C string single: .035
This is a long scale string but can be used with any scale length

Black Nylon Tapewound Super Long 4-String Set: 50-105

And some new Nickel Plated Steel Singles: These are part of the Balanced Tension Sets:

.067
.107

And last but not least:

.160!

I have not gotten my hands on the actually released .160 yet but from the Prototype I played it is Tapered.

A .160 will have a tension of 30 pounds at F#, which is extra light but just tight enough for good tone and playability. Also it will be good for G, G# and a nice medium tension A.
So a well chosen single gauge for various low tunings.

The 160 is made to pair up with the EXL160BT set.
Ah excellent, it gets better!

I have been using D'Addario Prosteel tapered .145s for years it is excellent: flexible, 3 wraps, reasonably short and fat tapered section to minimise inharmonicity, bright aggressive tone and intonates right up to the 24th fret. So i know they can make a good fat string, i'm hoping for 3 wraps with a huge outer wrap.

Put a set of EXL160BT's (50-67-90-120) on my G&L SB-2 earlier this week and tuned them to E. Before anyone expresses concern that it's going to damage the neck, it's not any more tension than you'd have on a 5 string bass (it's actually slightly less); it's just that in this case the total tension is spread over 4 strings instead of 5.

Bottom line: By FAR the best sounding E-string I've ever heard on any bass I've owned. Wonderful clarity. FYI, this is the bass I use for playing harder rock/metal with, and I play it with a pick.

I was confident that this would be the case because in the past I've temporarily tuned the B on a 5-string up to E and it was much clearer sounding than the 'real' E-string.

Couldn't be happier.

Have there been any updates on the availability of balanced sets in medium scale? I play a 32" scale bass and would love a balanced set of XLs with a .110 E or so. On the E, my bass is a hair under 35" from ball end to tuner post.

No love for these strings anymore? I'm thinking about a set for my P5, wondering how they compare tension wise to Sunbeams, my string of choice for P4s, but never cared for tne B string. Specifically the 220BT set. BTW, can't find the 5 string set at Basstringsonline.
