D'Addario NYXL Bass Strings

I brought in several sets of these to try out and so far quite happy, to the point I think they're going to be our default string. Will have to try the tapered E as well as just the B, and since we're buying in bulk, maybe D'Addario can shorten the taper length since we don't do string through... Consistency of feel and tone has been great, just waiting to see how they break in over more time, which is tough when I have even less time to play now than ever :/

I love the NYXL G, D, and A, but did not like the non tapered E and B. I have had several sets too (so it wasn't a bad set), but the non tapered E and B do not sound like the same set to my ears. When you put on the tapered E and B then all strings sound the same.

so it seems that 2+ inches has become standard in D'Addario taper strings, up to their very latest NYXL...

(I've had few of them, namely HalfRounds .130T, XL Nickels .130T, FlexSteels .135T)...

which is good if I were to put it on my string thru body bass, but not so good for my top load basses (which sadly are the majority of my basses right now) since the taper part would hang quite long after passing the saddle and produces weird tone at the very higher frets.

I was a beta tester for these (regular, non-tapered set) and I thought the non-tapered E was fine. I thought the whole set sounded great. I just couldn't justify them being double the price of my tried and true XL's. But I've always liked tapered or exposed core strings. So once the tapered were available I gave them a second shot.

Once again: If you adjust your saddles properly, putting the tapered core string at the same height/distance as the previous non-tapered string, pickup height is irrelevant.

The non tapered E and B sound dull and less bright than the other strings. To my ears it's a night and day difference.

I have to concur with respect to the B string. My E has much more life to it than the B string and only a bit less than the remaining strings. They are good sounding strings in all other respects.

When I had the 105 E it actually did sound a little brighter. I currently have a 100 E and it doesn't sound as bright. Go figure.

I finally had a chance to gig these last night and the comment on the non-tapered B string stands. More thumpy than the rest of the set. Having said that, I got a lot of compliments on my sound last night, which was nice. I blame the strings for part of that. The E-G portion of the set do sound really nice.

no problemo.... just like to point out that D'Addario (NYXL) tapered string isn't for every bass (bridge) due to its long 2+ inches tapered part, cause not every bass (bridge) takes that amount of length from the ball end to the saddle and that it would make weird tones when what's left of the tapered part passing the saddle too long.
