Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

Ok all. So here is some more opinion/info on the blooper.

So this thing rules. I put my rat tail, muff and AOU in and out of the blooper. I just had to find the right area where I wanted to hold the blend knob and set the phase. And I think I have. That might change once I get it in and band levels. But having this thing on my board running at all times seems so awesome so far. It adds this really solid and full, of course filtered, low end. It just sounds right. It’s great. I’ll have more to say once I get it in with the band.... but so far, so great. Happy as hell I added it. Thanks @father of fires, you are doing a great service to dirt loving bassists. Hell just bassists in general. This thing is great.

Once I figured out how to use it!!!!! Haha

After some conversations with Greg I drew this up real quick...

I always forget folks aren't in my head.

Your picture jives with how I thought it would work.

I’ve been watching this thread for a while and it certainly took a surprising twist from MBD-1 to a blend!! Funny timing too, I just started looking into blends... and this one brings up all sorts of questions! Is the wet signal unfiltered and only the clean has the LPF applied? I didn’t notice a difference in the video but does that mean if the pedal is engaged and set at full dry, the output signal would actually be the LPF’d version of dry? Finally, I can see how the LPF would really be beneficial with a lot of wet mixed in... how does it work on the drier side of things?

I was looking for that picture in my box! Got mine today will be a min before I can try it. Now at least the picture in my head works with what it was designed for. Excited to run my Timmy pedal through it and see what crazy overdrive I can get.

Sorry. Lesson learned. I can mail you one if you need be.

The Wet signal is full range no filtering at all. Just as Ron from Bongripper wanted it.

The "blend" control is not so much of a wet dry mix but instead is a parallel clean low channel (like the MBD). So if nothing is plugged into the loop then it's simply a low passed boost pedal. Good for some oldschool or dubby vibes.

You basically have to have an effect in the loop (but then why else would you need a loop switcher without one) and that is your main sound. The Loop Blend just puts that effect in and out of your signal chain. The "blend" control just simply allows you to blend some clean lows into the signal coming out of the loop.

One way I'd like to use it is to get a hold of all the old pedals with blends that I passed on and see if I'd like them better with this style of clean blend control.

I was convinced I knew exactly what I was doing when I unboxed this thing. Leave it to a looper to let me know just how dumb I can be sometimes!

I ran my HX's Timmy through it last night. It sounded great. What's really cool about the Bloop is that it's always doing something the way I have it ran and set. I can turn it off at any time but with it on, it make everything fuller and more powerful sounding. At first I just tried it as a straight blender from the IN and OUT. That way darkens your tone. Quite a bit. So what FOF's is referring to below, that's what that is. And that's a great description, very old school and even dubby. It does take a lot of definition and clarity away. That's for sure. I didnt like that tone very well but I could see how some would and could utilize it that way. When I first plugged mine in that's how I ran it, just as a blend. I knew I was doing something wrong haha. After a quick talk with Jeff, we worked it out and I am VERY happy with the function and sound of the Bloop so far. I have practice tonight so I'll know more then. But so far it sounds glorious.

This is what I was missing in the overall concept of the pedal. I was just planning on using it to blend a couple of dirt boxes. But the way I have it ran atm, it's actually blending my whole board (while still blending those couple dirt boxes as well). And it sounds awesome doing it. It just gave everything more heft and body yet holds my clarity and definition. It's just a great way of executing a blend/looper IMO. I've worked with these tools before but not quite like this one. And I know things like this are out there, it's not like he's reinventing the wheel. But its the first time I've had experience with something exactly like this and I'm really liking it. I'm anxious for future practices.

I'll also add, the Bloop adds a little something to the a dirt pedal it's blending besides just low end. I dont know how to describe it. I dont want to say sag. But it's like that. Like it adds mosfets to the signal or something haha if that makes sense. Not clipping at all. But the FEEL and FLAVOR or them.

Cool that's working out for you 79. I just wonder though if you have so many pedals in the loop if the settings are correct across the board? I find blend pedals generally work best when not asked to do too much. For example, would the phase switch setting be the same for all of them? You'll figure it out and have fun in the process.

Yeah I am still concerned about that fact for sure. That was the first thought that ran through my mind after I realized what it was doing to my board and how I am running it. It sounded great last night at somewhat loud volumes through my Ampeg B50R. But in the bedroom. I have practice tonight so we'll see how it plays out. I am running the phase switch up, that's how it sounds best to me so far. Down took too much away no matter where I set the dial. But that could, again, change in time.

It's like I said, this is not your run of the mill blender and or looper. Maybe you know pieces of kit like this, but I've never played anything like it before. The Big Bottom was the closest I came to something like this. And while I liked the BB well enough, the Bloop is more pleasant to my ears. It interacts in an easier, more musical way than the BB did for me. The Bloop effects my signal a little differently. So, so far, it's performing very well considering all I'm running through it.

One things for sure, I have been really wanting to streamline my board and get it down to say like, 8 to 10 pedals. The Bloop could help me do that. I'm still not sure I want to, there may be no reason to other than me wanting to go a little smaller in board size. But it's a fun idea. For me.

There's a lot to be said for simplifying. From my reading of many forums, simplifying seems to be a trend nowadays. Enjoy!

Totally kidding, it’s exactly how I thought it should work. If it didn’t then I would have asked! Can’t wait to give it a go when I get hone tonight.

I can't wait to release my next utility pedal (futility pedal?) and confuse everyone even more.

You should make several utility pedals and when they are all combined they become the futility pedal. What this mixture of pedals does is cancel each other out completely.
