Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

I've been able to put in more time with the Amp Grinder, and here are my observations:

-It does indeed have Loud of God
-The calilil demo is dead-on, it sounds EXACTLY like those examples. The only thing I think it doesn't quite capture is just how beefy it can be
-It passes the Ace of Spades test and the Lateralus test with flying colors. It loves doomy riffs, and sounds great with power chords
-It sounds really good with all of my basses (p-bass, L2K in all modes [incl. inner and outer coils), and even my fretless jass with ground wounds. This is notable because my previous arrangement with the crossover sounded great with my p-bass, but never sounded right on anything else.
-Even at higher gain, the personality of the instrument still came through and was differentiated between basses
-It stacks well with OD or boost in front of it
-The way the clean blend works, the slow menacing sweeps from the Microsynth earlier in the chain still come through
-The volume level is unchanged when switching between modes I & II
-It's not finicky, it's really intuitive to dial in
-It's the lowest-noise Rat I've ever used, by a significant margin

So, needless to say it's a keeper, Velcro went on it last night.

But seriously...I know my comments sound almost implausibly positive, but it's because I had a *very* specific wish list for what my dream Rat would be (low noise, countoured low blend, even volume when switching modes, controls that were useable across the full range, not harsh unless you want it to be). I got this because it checked all the boxes, and it does exactly what it says it does.

Indeed. I’ve been trying to be more judicious about my pedal buying, especially dirt as of late. I’ve been down a big rabbit hole of low-gain and stackable dirts. The music I play doesn’t really call for distortion all that often.

I think you'll dig it.
I've tried a few RAT based circuits, and the AG is the one that works and sounds best to me.
I have a buddy who has tried numerous RAT based circuits, and not gotten along with them.
He asked me about the AG, and I said it can be kinda harsh, and he probably won't dig it. He still asked to borrow it, to which I obliged.
Yeah, it changed his stance and he loved it.

I’ve really liked all the sounds I’ve heard on the demos, and then hearing everything on the thread about how it stacks up against the other popular Rat based pedals, I’m thinking I’ll like it almost no matter what.

This is my first DA pedal. I’ll track down an MBD eventually. I know the D is for Distortion, but in my head it’s always been Mosfet Bass Death, so I’m inclined to find an earlier MBD3 before the retro redesign.

I also just picked up a Dunwich/Magic ODB on a trade, and it’s a cool pedal as well especially at 18v. I had a Pork and Pickle for a while, and I’m currently rocking a Locust Star.

But important in that it was your and Dave's first real collab? Until the MBD3 came out, I had for years my own Jeff and Dave collab on my board in the form of a Sick Set Dude going into an MBD2. I still use that setup at the practice space. I'd love to see in a revision down the road maybe some EQ options for the boost circuit in the MBD3. Basically, a Sick Set Dude.

That’s unfortunate. The Spite Box is among best in class, imo. It’s so well designed and fierce in the mix. Even the base fuzz sound without octave is great. Its beat out the Witchfinder, Nomad, Sunder Fuzz, etc. ..And, the Curmudgeon is a doom machine. I still haven’t tried anything that does thick sludgy tones on bass quite like it does.
