Dan Lakin has SOLD Lakland basses???

Guys great sales don't equal profit all the time. My dad works for Steelcase, the largest furniture manufacturer out there. they've been hemoraging money for a long time. Nor does high end mean great sales. Duesenburg made the best cars of anybody and went bankrupt. The key is watching revenue vs costs.

Plus, I'd bet that the % of TB that plays Lakland is much larger than the rest of hte bass population who probably doesn''t know about them.

had a 2002 CAR BG with the same configuration and now have a BG5 with the same confguration - killer!!!

Did that in 2008. Sounds great. My only Lakland now.

yup....many times higher quality production = less markup = less profit.

many companies are losing money these days....glad lakland will be able to continue operations....

This is very interesting news. I was actually on the Lakland site today and for the first time noticed that they had changed some of their model names. (ie. The Joe Osborn is now the 44-60/55-60). I wonder if this is maybe so Dan can keep the model name in case he wanted to build them outside of the Lakland brand?
I was very bummed to see the DJ go away, so I will be very excited to see another small bodied bass released in its place. Best of Luck to Dan, although I never got a chance to speak with him, everyone I did have contact with at Lakland was a 100% class act....and that starts at the top.

I wonder if this will differ from all those other MBO's where at the time of the buy-out the management makes all the right noises about keeping the brand not making any changes etc. Cut to a few months later when the financiers have brought reality home and all of sudden its above cost cutting and improving cash flows to make the financiers happy. I could be wrong, but I see a lot of this stuff in my line of work and I have yet to see an MBO where all the "warm and fuzzy" noises arn't made at the point of acquisition. The test of brand continuity isn't at the point of acquisition, its 6-12mo's latter when the first interest payments start to fall due. Hopefully i'm wrong because I used to enjoy the US JO 4 that I had and Lakland really was a great brand to compete with the big 3 in the bass world.
