Dan Lakin has SOLD Lakland basses???

Yes..it's true Hanson Musical Instruments,LTD, announced that a group, led by itself, has purchased Lakland Basses of Chicago. John Pirruccello is now the President of Lakland Guitars LLC. John has 11 years experience at Lakland as Global Sales Director, and Chief Operations Officer.

I'm really going to miss Dan...such an awesome dude, but I do feel very good that John and Bo are heading Lakland into the future. They're great guys, and know Lakland so so well.

Dan sold the business to John and Bo (who run Hanson and who have held equity in Lakland since almost the beginning).

this was a good move on Dan's part....John and Bo as just as dedicated to the brand as Dan was....much more so than others...the brand will stay intact as will the Chiacgo production....

I am meeting with them on Thursday (as an officer of the Lakland Owner's Group) to see what I can find out...will post whatever I find out.

I can tell you that John and Bo have not wasted any time! they have already announced the replacement small bodied J bass (formerly the DJ) and have much more to come!

Also - Dan promises an update soon on his plans...I will not say that I will miss him because he will still be around the bass community in one way or another....he bleeds 3TSB!!!

Not a Fender clone but his Korean made Hollowbody is pretty slick.

Well, I'm impressed that he was able to sell it at all. It isn't exactly an industry secret that the business wasn't ever profitable. That he was able to sell it at all is impressive.

Selling a lot of stuff ain't the same as making a consistent profit at a level that allows the company to pay decent wages to the principals, grow the company, and allow real R&D.

I also have a hard time believing Lakland never turned a profit. I am excited that from what I have seen of the "new" line of basses on the webiste, I can get what was formerly a Duck Dunn, in other colors besides CAR and Seafoam. And I will be really interested in a "DJ" bass once those are brought back.

It was sold to some one with many years of hands on experience with the internal intricacies of Lakland.

I can't think of two better people to run Lakland.


I spoke with Dan yesterday and he expressed that he is very happy that John and Bo are now the owners of Lakland bass guitars.

Quite honestly I could see how this would be a possibility for him. Since design is essentially what he did at Lakland he could either do that job for another company OR start another bass company which seems unlikely after the financial troubles that Lakland went through.
