Danelectro 63 Long Scale

Hey guys -

Been trolling these forums for a while - time for a question. :help:

Any idea whats happening with the 63 series? Its been top of my GAS list for some time now!

Just wondering if any one has any inside info - or works in a store ordering from Dano and can provide an update!

Cheers in advance :bassist::bassist::bassist:

I just got mine yesterday from Nitro Music, and I'm a bit disappointed. I have two Hodad's, and the quality on them is so much better. A couple of questions for those of you who have the new ones.... the white tape around the edges is "streaked" with an off color yellow throughout it, almost like a glue showing through. And the "White" pickguard" is also "splashed with some very light yellowish blotches, it's not pure white. Is that the way they all are, or did I get a bad one?

No, that's their so-called "aged" look, I purchased one of the PRO model guitars last year and I got the same thing. On some models the aging is more uniform.
Just play the bass and find an aged groove.

I got mine last week in Aqua. It sounds very good but needed a little "set up" work, which is very normal.
main_sale, where did you get yours? I've had an aqua Danelectro long-scale bass on order at Music123 for more than three months now. They, and other retailers, have had this model in black for some time, but aquas seem to be unavailable anywhere.

Does anyone have a picture of this long scale Danelectro? As far as I know, and I started playing bass back when the original Danelectros were made, they never had a long scale bass in their lineup. Is this long scale similar to the Korean made Danelectro DC made back in the 90s? I have one of them. Nicely made bass for the money. Much better quality than the original Danelectro which was a pretty shoddy piece of work but had a unique sound.

If this new Danelectro is any good and the price is right it'd be worth getting one.

I would sell you mine, but I would probably really regret it.
OK, fair enough - but again, where did you buy yours?

If you'd prefer to keep it a secret, that's cool. However, I'm hoping that perhaps you could please share this information, so that I (and maybe others here) could benefit.

To reiterate, so far I have been unable to find a single online music retailer in the United States that sells the Danelectro '63 reissue long-scale bass in aqua. I'd be thrilled if you could please point me toward one. Thanks!

That's not too reassuring.
62bass, if I interpret Oric's message correctly, he's saying that he likes his bass and would regret selling it, not that the buyer would regret buying it.

Anyway, you can see the long-scale Dano '63 bass at [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. It is shown in three colors - black, red burst, and the apparently non-available aqua. They also advertise a short-scale bass, a guitar, and a baritone guitar. These new instruments are made in China.

Hodad-time (c.1999-2001) was a great era for "new" Dano -- the triple lipstick p/u were a great idea and it gets almost universal raves; they reissued the DC, the Longhorns, and on the cheaper side the "Danoblaster" line gave us the remarkable P-bass-type Rumor.

Too bad that the company has for whatever reason only produced in fits and spurts, because they've often been the source of great alternative instruments.
