Danelectro Owners Club

I just picked up a danelectro longhorn bass here on talk bass. I just put on some TI shortscale flats and I'm loving it. There was no case with the bass - can anybody recommend a gig bag I can get for it?

Here's a picture of it

Wow, that's a pretty one. The one I bought came with a fairly generic square tweed guitar case that was probably intended for a strat copy. Other than the body being a bit wide for it, it fits pretty well. One like it wouldn't be hard to find. Mine also just barely fits in an Ibanez-branded Levy's gig bag intended for a strat-style body. Again, the body is just a little wide, but it zips closed.

I use a standard Fender Strat case for my Longhorn. The full size rectangle one. Remove just a half inch of cushion from the headstock end it fits perfectly. Tight and secure. I use a gig bag for my shorty U-2 bass. Haven't figured out what to use for the long scale 63 I just got. I love my Danos. The Fenders hang on the wall at home.

I no longer own my Longhorn. My Grandaughter came to visit a couple months ago and I was showing her some stuff on the Longhorn and I guess she took a liking to playing bass. So for her 13th Birthday last week I mailed her the bass and she was thrilled! I might miss it a bit, but at least it found a new home in the family!

That's fantastic! Great bass to start on, continue on, have fun with, sound great, etc. You're a fine grandpa!

Yeah, that is a great gift to give, it is a great bass to learn on. I wish that I had one of these when I was getting started, then I wouldn't have spent time with basses that didn't fit me well. And really, there's no absolute reason for her to need another bass again unless she wants to start slapping a lot.

And the best part is, if you want to replace it, its no great trial to get another at a bargain price. :)

ok not a bass, I know, hold off on the negatives ... I did insert my SX jr just to keep it reasonably bass related :)

We used to have a matching bass in the family, it got pawned off before I knew it was being got rid of or I would have got it for myself. I keep looking, but the bass prices are outside my pocketbook range right now. :(
