Waahh!!! (Cantonese for WoW)

I'd LOVE to get that body. I really can't stand the rectangular control plate on Höfner basses (and the clones), but I love violin-shaped basses. The rectangular plate is fugly and incongruous with the sexy violin-shaped curves. Höfner started out with a beautiful round control plate on the violin bass and then lost the plot, IMHO. Love the Klira control plate, sort of a banana shape, and the cat's eyes ff-holes.

scale is 34.. what is split lip stick.. i would oveto changr out the stock pup as it sounds rather crappy IMO

Dano-wise, I love all the various shaped Danos except the longhorn, which just doesn't flip my switch.
Love Dano colours with my fave being Copper-burst over white, not creme, or solid Copper.

A Dan Armstrong modded Dano would be cool to have, or a Wild Thing refinned in copper-burst, but my grail would have to be a vintage Stan & Dan doubleneck in Copperburst.

Question for you Rumor owners, what's the scale length? I'd love to get a Rumor and yank out the P-pup and put in a "split-P Lipstick".

rumors is 34 sclae. what is a split lip . i would loveto change out the stock pup as it sounds rather crappy to me IMHO..

Yeah, it certainly isn't right.
I've had the neck off to adjust the truss rod and there is no shim, of course I could shim it the other way but that would look bad IMO.

Also in case anyone is wondering this is a MIK DC bass that was bought new and aside from a pickup switch, setup and strings it is completely stock.

EDIT: Re reading that, what I said about the shim sounds a bit confusing.
What I mean by the other way is to shim it at the top of the neck pocket thus giving me the added height at the bridge.
That's a shim that would show and me no likey.

I know that a new saddle/new bridge is the way to go here and being that a new bridge would cost me money I'm thinking a new saddle is the ticket.
I'm just not sure what I want to make it out of, perhaps I'll make a day of it and cut a few different saddles and test the results.

Also worth mention is that one thing I really like about this bass is the very bright tone I get out of it, thus the idea of using aluminium to take the bright up a notch.

So I guess what I was more or less looking for is some opinion on using different saddle material.

if shim at the far end of the neck it will pull the atin of the strings actually down as the angle of the neck gets more like gibson ..... If i were you i would try it. free fix and it idoes n't work you pull it off...Start with paper, wood or my favorite is the messhy type sand paper type material thay actually grips a littler and helps side to side movemnet.

Yeah I agree the metal bridge may be easier, but i've had both and the rosewood sounds better. Its just such cheap metal thats it made from. I couldn't believe how easy it was for me to bend it back in shape! Next fix is replace the tuners with something better thats a drop in replacement. I know the ones I had on my Jerry Jones were nice tuners, but I can't remember what they were. Someone here will know what a good set of replacements will be!

Standard Kluson-style guitar tuners should fit without drilling. I've considered it but the tuners that are on my 09 Longhorn work fine and hold tune great, cheap as they are. I've seen them with Schaller bass tuners installed, but that requires drilling and I'd be worried about it being neck heavy.

Well, I wanted to try out a Dan-o Longhorn because I'd heard it gets great tone for a short scale bass. Since I'm small and getting old, the long reaches below the 5th fret are getting difficult to do fast, so I needed to at least consider a short scale bass. However, I was skeptical that one could deliver tone, as the first Bass I owned was a 3/4 size, and it sounded awful. On the other hand, I knew treble Dan-o guitars were something special when it came to tone. So, I had to try one.

I won one on Ebay this week, and got it today. It's a newer Chinese built one. The guy bought it new in (he thinks) 2011, loosened the strings, put it in a case and never played it. It came with appropriately sized/gauged strings, and the dreaded aluminum bridge.

Man, I now wish that I'd bought about 10 of the originals when I could get them for less than $200 at guitar shows. This thing sounds better than any bass I have ever played, and plays much easier. It goes from crisper and brighter than I'm ever likely to use, to a nice thump, and is musical everywhere in between. Yes, the aluminum bridge is not the greatest, mine showed a bit of bow when I first tuned it to pitch. It has a stack of pennies under it at the moment. I've ordered a rosewood replacement already that I think is chromed steel. I've gotta get a Dan-o baritone, now.

I'm not the most active member around here, but I do believe I'll take a number, please!

I'd like to report that the Allparts bridge that I ordered came, and it is indeed a much sturdier bridge than the aluminum one. It doesn't match the other parts, being chrome and not satin, but it is a drop in replacement, and doesn't bow at pitch. It was $51, including shipping. A good upgrade for anyone who is unhappy with the bridge on their Chinese Danelectro.

No, it's not the all-metal one. It's got a rosewood saddle. It's this one. The saddle is packaged under the bridge, I suppose to protect it while it's being shipped around. You have to put the screw into the saddle yourself, but it does have a dimple for a pilot hole.

$45 + shipping is the price I see for them. It might be steep for a bass that goes for around $250, but it was worth every penny to me. The bowing bridge just made me nervous. It's either steel or brass. I think it's steel, since it isn't a lot heavier than the aluminum one. It still sounds largely the same after the switch, to my ears. Maybe a little of the twang was lost, but that's probably more due to the strings having a week of noodling and a show on them now.

My bridge pickup is quite a bit lower and it was on both of my Jerry Jones Longhorns. I'm glad the new allparts bridge is a bit more heavy duty. The originals are really soft. Some of the chrome finish came off mine and it looks like copper or has a copper coating also. Mine is holding up fine after I did the fix I posted about earlier, so i'm all set for now otherwise I would get one.
