Danelectro Owners Club

If you think about it, there is far less vibration of the string, close to the bridge. To get more output from the bridge pickup, you must raise the pickup closer to the string. It shouldn't be a problem with string rattle because of the less movement of the string at that point.

+1 to JimmyM and rfslick

I had a Danelectro U2 years ago. When I got it, the difference between bridge and neck volume was severe. Once I got the action dialed in (it was pretty bad when I got it), I lowered the neck p/u way down, almost into the body cavity. Then I raised the bridge pickup as high as I could w/o hitting the strings. It was a different instrument once I was done adjusting. Outputs were much closer.

We have now reached 62 members. Wow! I remember when we were struggling to get 10. Thanks guys. :)

Hey folks. I have 2 Danelectro basses - a first-gen reissue Longhorn in black (what a great bass) and the subject of this post. I picked up a Dano 63 Short Scale Bass a while back. When I bought it, it looked like the first pic below. I just did a major modification - I took off the fretboard and replaced it with an unlined fingerboard - see 2d pic below. The project isn't quite done yet, but so far, so good. When it's all done, I'll try to post something more detailed in the Luthier's Corner. A beast not found in nature! I like shorties and there aren't a lot of fretless shorties on the market. This project was relatively cheap and easy to accomplish.

the big PG looks good with the green color, which is what i have with the longscale neck. with the red/black it is too much white and covers the red/black which one of my favorite bass scenes as is the old ampeg scrolls which i adore (and collect too).

Agreed. I'm also thinking about swapping out the bridge for the vintage-style with the rosewood saddle.

Please add me as a member. I just got a Silver Metalflake DC off eBay. I am in love with the tone! Playability is good, too. I think it could use a set of strings. Any recommendations? I've always been a user of heavier gauges and almost always roundwounds. Anyone think I might wanna go with some lighter gauge flatwoods? Thanks, and I'm really pleased to have discovered this bass and this group!
