Thanks GIBrat51... I think it's #4 and I can live with "that's just the way it is"... .. been through enough instruments myself to know that they're all beautifully flawed. Just got to spot where the beauty is.

Jumbodbassman... not being reversewound and therefore not having the humcancelling drop would explain why the two pups don't act like a Jazz... louder instead of scoupier (?)

The ones in my DC Pros (Korean leftys) are not noisy at all. Honestly, I don't recall anyone ever complaining about that with a Dano. The pickups are single coils, so it's a possibility, I guess, but no problem with mine.

I've always used roundwounds for the additional tone and clarity. If you read up on The Who's "My Generation" you'll find that he played a Long Horn with Rotosounds.

I thought he got through the three in London (that had roundwound strings before Rotosound made them) and ended up using a Jazz. But I'm not a huge fan, so I may be wrong ...

Yes, that's what Entwistle said. Couldn't get replacement strings for the Longhorns (hence buying 3 of them) and eventually gave up and used a Jazz with flats.

Hated the colour when I bought it (I needed a bass, and it was the only cool one they had), but I must admit it's grown on me

I have a question about a strap for my longhorn.

I have usually just used leather straps turned backwards for wearing my Dano with stock strap buttons. It works, but is not very attractive. Any suggestions on a dedicated strap for this bass? I was thinking about a mandolin strap, or something with really narrow strap ends and a padded shoulder piece.

For anybody that has a 3412 can anybody recommend me some cheap strings? D'addario Jerry Jones strings I guess are no longer available and where the right gauge and only $10 bucks. I'm afraid of putting on a heavier gauge and warping the neck.

Just found Fender xl156 that should work right? Same gauge i'm just worried about the ends fitting on the vintage bridge.

My JJ came with D'Addario XL170s. They seem to still be available on line, for $18-22.

I switched to D'Addario chrome flats. I like the sound, and I don't have to change then all the time. I still have several sets of used XL170s hanging around, cut for a Longhorn.

You could do that, or you could do what I did...drill out the top horn for a strap button:

Wouldn't recommend doing this to a vintage Dano, but would do it to a reissue in a heartbeat. Never had a problem with it in 3 years.

I just got a Rumor bass last week. Great sound, didn't expect it to have that resonance. I obtained a MIM Fender P-bass around the same time with upgraded pickups and bridge- I have to say, I'm playing the Rumor bass quite a lot more. I love the light weight and the overall feel of the bass- may consider more Danelectro basses in the future.
Only thing I'm not sold on with the Rumor bass is the finish. Not really into a sunburst finish- I was thinking of a future project being to have the bass repainted a surf green color to give it a little bit more of a retro look to it. Trying to imagine how it might look or perhaps, I may want to try another color.

Would love to join the club.
