Danelectro Owners Club

I no longer own my Longhorn. My Grandaughter came to visit a couple months ago and I was showing her some stuff on the Longhorn and I guess she took a liking to playing bass. So for her 13th Birthday last week I mailed her the bass and she was thrilled! I might miss it a bit, but at least it found a new home in the family!

I started taking lessons on a '50's copper burst Danelectro Longhorn at age 14 in 1962. Came with a factory hard case. Started playing in bar bands in '63 at age 15, used that Danelectro for everything till I sold it in Berkeley, CA in 1975, and had NO problems with it at all. IIRC, I adjusted the set up 2 or 3 times in 12 years.
I played round wound Black Diamond strings on it and got a lot of varied sounds using the pickups both on and V & T blended.

I missed it all these years, so last fall I got this gem, MIK, and near perfect when I bought it...

Using D'Addario round wounds on it, and it sounds very similar to my old one, at least that's how I remember it...they are great players basses and a lot of '50's and '60's recordings used them - they record VERY well.

If you guys are giving out club numbers, I would like one, if I may...thank you!

Nice Longhorn. Love that color!!! Everyone please join me in welcoming our latest member... #68, old mark. Wow! Does anyone else remember when we were struggling to get 10 people? ;)

I don't qualify for membership because I don't currently own a Dano. I have had 3 over the years. The standard 4 string was my very first bass in 1962. I also owned a longhorn, and a 6 string baritone, but I tuned it for bass as EADGBE.
I really like them. I would have one, but I want a vintage. I'm not too interested in one of the modern versions.

Hello, all! I've a danelectro rumor P-style bass (well, at least the body... It'll be a frankenbass, so I'm not looking for membership) and it came with a button on the body that is/was linked to a chorus effect. Has anyone had any experience with on-board effects? I'm considering replacing it with something more like distortion or fuzz and I want to know how I'd go about doing it. Strip the components from an old pedal? Buy parts specifically made for being used in the body? Thanks in advance for the help. You can see the button in the picture near the right upper edge of the pickguard. And yes, I know it's torn up. Old pic, I've fixed it up a bit. =)

. Yes the Longhorn records surprisingly well. Sounded BETTER than my Jazz or the Precision. I'd lay a track with one the Fenders then redo it right with the Danny.

Me next! After playing a Longhorn in a store years ago, I knew I had to have one. I found a MIK with Grovers, and one shaller with a hipshot on the E string.. It's purple with no Naugahyde. Sounds strange, but I've been gigging with it with no complaints from the band, even when I drop D with the hipshot.

Robin
My 63' had the Naugahyde removed by a previous owner so I used leopard print duct tape and had a tort guard made for it. One of a kind.
