I no longer own my Longhorn. My Grandaughter came to visit a couple months ago and I was showing her some stuff on the Longhorn and I guess she took a liking to playing bass. So for her 13th Birthday last week I mailed her the bass and she was thrilled! I might miss it a bit, but at least it found a new home in the family!
I started taking lessons on a '50's copper burst Danelectro Longhorn at age 14 in 1962. Came with a factory hard case. Started playing in bar bands in '63 at age 15, used that Danelectro for everything till I sold it in Berkeley, CA in 1975, and had NO problems with it at all. IIRC, I adjusted the set up 2 or 3 times in 12 years.
I played round wound Black Diamond strings on it and got a lot of varied sounds using the pickups both on and V & T blended.
I missed it all these years, so last fall I got this gem, MIK, and near perfect when I bought it...
Using D'Addario round wounds on it, and it sounds very similar to my old one, at least that's how I remember it...they are great players basses and a lot of '50's and '60's recordings used them - they record VERY well.
If you guys are giving out club numbers, I would like one, if I may...thank you!
