The other option would be to pickup a Hondo Longhorn.

True. And I badly wanted one of those once upon a time. The question is whether the Hondo would sound close enough to a Danelectro, if the Dano sound was what one was after.

Those I've seen have a Dimarzio style P pickup. They're aren't even close to the sound. Plus its in the wrong spot so swapping in lipstick probably wouldn't help. They look good though.True. SOLD - Hondo Longhorn w/ Dimarzio Area P & LaBella Flats NOW 0Never seen a Hondo Longhorn, wasn't even aware they existed. Solid body construction? Did a quick search but couldn't find one anywhere to even look at.
Yeah the scale was one thing that talked me out of it.Crap, wish I'd seen that. Would have liked to look into it anyway. Appreciate the link mbelue.

The neck pocket is far to close to the bridge (and the tailpin end) to accommodate any non-custom neck.I bought a couple of things from Ft. Madison a few years ago. The guy seems committed to the brand but does not sell his stuff cheaply.
As to a long-scale Longhorn, unless you are dead set on a 100% factory spec look, this is easily achievable.
1) Get yourself a Longhorn body.
2) Get a long-scale bass neck, Dano or otherwise.
3) If the neck heel is too narrow for the pocket (unlikely), build up the sides with shims. If the neck heel is too wide, rough the sides of the heel down with a drum sanding bit on a Dremel tool. Sand and scrape to finished dimensions.
4) Since the bridge has to be moved forward, you have space at the body butt for a short trapeze tailpiece.
5) Obtain a suitable bridge. Probably this will have to be a floating type, both for intonated positioning and because there will be no internal anchor block to screw into. The neck may have to be shimmed for comfortable action.
6) String up.
7) Tune up.
8) Play.
Sorry, but the only honest answer is - keep looking.
It took me the better part of a decade (along with not having money at right time several times), but they're out there.
One of the problems is this is a less common colour than the black, and the longhorn being a kindof eccentric/retro design, the people that have 'em in "keen green" (that's the DAnelctro name for that colour - seafoam is the Ducco/Fender name for it) or green burst tend to keep 'em.
Look on Reverb - I've seen a number any time I was on a serious search - and evilBay - they were always just too far from me (I'm in Canada, so almost everyting on Reverb is too far).
Thanks! Somehow, someway, I found one! Yes!!!!!

Was thrilled when I saw this post so I ordered an SG case from a website that I know does quality cases. It wasn't an Epiphone case, however, and to cut a long story short, it didn't fit. The website was really cool, however, and I got a full refund.
Still looking for a case for my longhorn! Really want a contoured hard one like that.![]()
If you don't mind my asking, where'd you find it? I've been kinda watching, looking for someone with a fairly late model Longhorn (pretty much any color) they've decided to dump for around $250-ish or less. I figure if I keep my eyes open sooner or later one will pop up. Anyone here sees one and doesn't jump on it first, if you'd ping me with info I'd sincerely appreciate it.
Dano Club -
I just went through all 60 pages of this thread. Yeah, I have a life. Anyways, I saw most of the usual suspect colors - however, I only saw ONE Purpleburst. Was this an actual run, or custom? I had never seen one before and it blew my brain wide open. So sexy. Anyways, just curious! I have owned 3 danos (one DC and two longhorns) and I always like grabbing new color combos. Can anyone tell me about this one or show me any photos of other rare Danos (preferably longhorn basses).
So are brand new upgraded PRO models not available? If I were going to buy one brand new I think that would be my preference.
