If I had given D Huff money and had not received anything in return, bass or refund I would be on that facebook page in a heartbeat commenting about it. I'd be blocked right away I'm sure, but he'd be doing a lot of blocking because I would have everyone I know commenting about what a scam artist/thief he is. I don't know if it would do any good or not but I would also contact facebook and Reverb and let them know they could potentially have a scam artist on their sites. My thoughts anyway.
Geez... you guys are harsh. Granted the builder appears to be rather slimy but buying a used bass? If it’s a player and it’s what the OP wants, buy it if you get it for a good price!
Any good luthier can work on any bass. If the thing is a good player or just needs a set up, you only need to find a competent tech if you are afraid of doing the work yourself.

It's possible that it's a brand new bass being sold on consignment, since other means of selling have been largely cut off. Not excusing any past behavior, but no overdue basses can get done if there isn't money to make them (and pay bills along the way)... and this may just be one way for him to pull that off - without taking new deposits. The pawn shop would probably just tell you if you asked.

Yeah, Pawn One on Division. 
My buddy in CDA knows him and has worked with him and swears its worth the price. But his taste is alot 'fancier' than mine, so... I couldn't spend that much on a pawnshop bass.
It IS pretty tho... It's been there awhile, make em an offer, you might get lucky.

Regardless of how the bass came to be made, the OP should evaluate it on its own merits alone. I wouldn't try to reach out to Huff at all. If Darin was dead, would that mean the bass shouldn't be sold? Any bass in a pawn shop listed at $3400 bucks should be talked down. If the OP really liked it and the bass seemed to be in good shape, pull out, say, fifteen hundred dollar bills and plop them on the counter. Offer to take it away, right now and see where that gets you.
As for Huff, he's got a lot of nerve selling basses on Reverb under his own name while paying customers have sat for nearly two decades(?) with nothing to show for it. If he had the do-re-me to build that bass, he should have finished one he was paid for back when Bush was President.
