Darkglass Anagram Multi FX Announced

Hey guys, I have a Darkglass midi footswitch on order, but it is taking FOREVER to arrive here in Canada. I'm thinking about a MC6 as an alternative... What are your thoughts. I am pretty sharp and pick up new things readily, but the Midi is a relative unknown so far to me. Seems like the Darkglass Midi is really easy to set up, but limited in flexibility. I'm worried the MC6 might be "too flexible". Basically just looking for more options of stomps to turn different blocks on and off, and the ability to navigate presets more effectively.
The mc6 is outstanding and very simple to set up for basic use. Loads of videos on the web but TBH I got it working just by playing. I think you can demo the editor on their website if you are unsure.

That's so great to hear!! I guess you can't hint or share ETA ;)
TBH, this was the only missing piece for me.
Actually, i will order it now.. It's been sitting in my thomman inbox for last few months and this is definitely making me finally buy it :D
Unfortunately not, because we don't want to give false expectations.
We are working on it and it'll be released once sound, tracking, UI, etc are ready :)

I'd go for the mc6! You'll get the most of the anagram. I was a noob to midi as well and I owned the dg footswitch for a while. And it is true. It is very easy to set up. But also: you might not learn anything about midi when using it. Compared to the the mc6 it is underwhelming in it's functionality. Maybe DG will add some functionality to the footswitch as well once they roll out deeper midi, but I simply cannot image that it'll reach the level of morningstars midi pedals.
I'd like to see DG make an anagram-specific MIDI controller. Either 3 buttons of the same width, or an L-shape that wraps around the device, turning it into an Anagram XL, with up/down on the side and a stomps along the front. Add OLED scribbles too, as I understand the LEDs on the current midi controllers are not very intuitive.

Or Darkglass should just give this chap a job (or buy his idea):

I really like this set-up but as mentioned before, an up/down option is also needed. One other thing. It would really be nice if the additional midi switch buttons could be at a little lower level to avoid accidentally hitting the Anagram switches and visa-versa.

TBH, I'd settle for simple 2-button TRS footswitch compatibility, as many users do with the HX Stomp. They're dirt cheap and would immediately expand the usability.

Do you have any projections on availability?

I’d buy the Anagram now if it had the synth, but $1200 is a lot to invest based on “we’re working on it”. It’s not that I don’t believe @IvanBassist, but I’ve seen things like this take more than a year to materialize. With so many other companies working on synths for bass, something else may come out sooner and I just can’t afford to invest in multiple pedals or effects systems.

Just ordered the MC6! Once it and the Anagram Press come in, I will be all set up!
Nice! I got an MC6 and it's so easy to program with the Anagram, I mostly use it for stomp mode toggling on the different block.

One of my favorite uses of it is to control a gain block at the end and have 2 switches set to increase or decrease the gain. It defaults at -6 db Gain, and each stomp increments or decrements by ~2 db, with lowest volume at -12 db and highest at +2 db. I like that I can change my volume and not effect any of the pedals before it, and not as finicky as a volume pedal, it just helps me match the volume of the rest of the band, and a couple taps, I'm out in front, or back in the mix.

Took some tweaking to get it right in the MC6, but it works!

Volume down on MC6

Had to set up a "scroll counter" in the Controller settings to hold the variable to scroll up and down:

Then on the bank I set it to display the current value out of 128 (should be 127 technically, but I like round numbers):

Ideally it would be the dB value or the %, but this is as far as I've gotten.

I also have the MC6 send a relay to toggle off and on settings on my amp with a long TRS cable (mute and toggle between 2 preamps).

Tons of potential with this mature MIDI platform, really waiting for the Anagram to catch up on MIDI support to enable more functionality like this. I would love to have a page where I can select where the expression goes (plugged into an MC6 Omniport) then MIDI to Anagram. I might have selections for volume swells, modulation rates, changing delay times, reverb mix, shimmer reverb controls, pitch shifter, wah, and of course toggling more blocks in stomp mode.

@warptheory Thanks for the tip, that is a really cool idea that I would not have thought of! I'm also excited by the potential that additional midi features could add. I would love to be able to use PCs to directly turn blocks off and on independently from quickpot or stomp bindings.

After the multiband compressor update, my wish list for more features is pretty short.
  • Adding selectable sweep direction to the envelope filters
  • Mesa Walkabout amp block (one of the more legendary modern bass amps)
  • LFO block
  • Tuner tracking to D0, then I can finally ditch my Strobostomp
(Expanded midi and Synth plugin of course are already announced)

Everything else that Darkglass does in addition to that will just be icing on the cake for me.

Yea but are we really gonna trust a man who skips leg day

I suppose along the lines of expanding the MIDI capability, I'd like to request MIDI access to tap tempo. Either tap tempo via MIDI or at least a MIDI toggle that brings up the tuner mute screen without muting the signal, so that the user can use the tap tempo on the right side.

Am I missing something for tap tempo? It's definitely not convenient to have to access the tuner screen to use tap tempo, especially if our default for the tuner is muting the signal.

Yeah, midi on the Anagram is really limited currently.

I'd love to see tap tempo, looper control, ability to switch scenes without being in scene mode, and more bindings - the 6 knob bindings seems like an arbitrary limitation since the knobs aren't actually used for that and additional pages could be added. I'm sure there are people who have more midi experience than me who could list more features they'd like, but that's the basic stuff that stands out to me.

Having midi control over the mixer’s master volume or over the new per-instrument input gains would also be amazing. But looper control seems basic.

The MOD Dwarf has really good midi implementation, and since the MOD Devices devs are the Anagram devs, you would think it would be relatively easy to get deep with it. Just a matter of their priorities.

What about synth? 😳
