Darkglass Microtubes 500 Combo vs Head + Cab

Hi TBers. My name is Kingofrock and I have GAS. I blame it on a mid-life crisis, but can justify it as being a lot cheaper than buying a Porsche.

Anyway, my son take lessons every Saturday, so I’m always loitering around the local shop. Purchased 3 amps so far this year and tried the Darkglass Microtubes Analog combo (2x10) couple weeks ago, and really loved it. I’m currently playing a Genzler Magellan 350 thru a Genzler 2x10 NuClassic.

So instead of buying the combo (using my (frequent flyer discount), I got a nice deal on a Microtubes 500 head (V1) on EBay. Played it thru the Genzler cab at practice yesterday and it sounded really good. However, I still keep thinking about the combo.

So, do I already essentially have the same setup as the combo, and my GAS is making me jump? Or is there an x-factor that the combo has that is missing from my setup? Pic one is the current setup. 2 is the amp head. 3 is the control panel from the combo. Thanks in advance TB!!🤘🤘

As both a long time sufferer of GAS and a recent recipient of midlife crisis, I’d go get the combo next time kiddo has lessons.

Is it redundant? Sure. But you are already wondering which route you should go. You like the Darkglass tones you hear. If you can afford it just scratch the itch and move on to the next one! I bet the Genzler will be a killer extension cabinet.
