Where’d you get the September ship date from? Did you order yours by phone somehow?
After a few days now my order is still just listed as “processing”…
I contacted EBMM and asked. They are being built with a 3 month lead time
From the demo I saw (Amos something or other, great vid) the grit/fuzz/distortion seems like it would be enough for a good number of players who don't need a ton of extra effects and may not want to bring a large pedal board with them. Not for all, but what is?
Personally, if it could be done right, it would be neat to see something like a 5 or 6 position knob with a single "character knob" where you could change to a number of different effects from your bass itself. I think I'd prefer it to pedals, but again, would HAVE to be done right or I'd stick with my board for sure.

There were 4 available to ship the day they were released. I think someone mentioned on this thread that they purchased one and it was supposed to arrive yesterday. I’m still on the fence with this one. Hoping to hear a review from a TB’r before making a decision....and hope they’re still available at that point. The black is cool and $200 cheaper, but that grey is really nice.

Something like a simplified onboard Empress ZOIA could do some pretty wild stuff, but then you really start to blur the lines between a bass and a straight up synth. Not that that is a bad thing in and of itself.
Man I sooooo want one of these! The Alpha Omega is my fav drive pedal. Of course I already have one. And an alpha omicron , & a bunch of basses , so I in no way need one.

This isn't my sort of thing but it is cool that Music Man continues to do new stuff.
Will this version come to Europe as well? A delivery from the official website to my country is ridiculously expensive.
I would think you should be able to get the Obsidian Black if you have a EB dealer in your country. The Granite Stone is only available direct I think and once they're gone - that's it. I live in the UK and it didn't work out to expensive.
Thanks for your reply. I meant the black version, indeed. I love the grey one more, but that is exclusive to the official website. I live in The Netherlands and it becomes almost 1000 euros more expensive.
Well it arrived. Some quick shots. Won't have time to play it until work is over later. I'll give some feedback later.
Ok. Initial thoughts...
Fit and finish is superb. Balance is a treat. I don't have scales, so you will have to take my word for this. It's light.
Clean sound: I don't hear any compromises here. I compared it with my 2004, 3 band Ray. Sounds more like the Classic Ray I used to own. The two band EQ is subtle. Some great tones. Definitely a 'Ray. But that's not why you buy this sucker...
The Fuzz tone (Red): Sounds much better finger style. Harsh with a pick. That could be the pick, or more likely, my style (I'm heavy handed). Finger style for me, brings out the natural undertones. The flesh on my fingers brought out those undertones, with the effect being more of a pleasant embellishment.
The Overdrive (Blue). Takes it up a notch. Again, sounds better finger style. IMO. See above. I would use this to a lesser extent.
Early days. The blend is very sensitive, but in a good way. I will be more conclusive once I've reflected a little more, listened more to the nuances of blending and once I'm in the mix.
For me, first impression? Happy with it. Very much so. No buyer's remorse.
However, I'm pretty sure it will not be for everyone. I would wholeheartedly recommend trying it out before purchasing. It's a quality bass and comparable (or less) than the price of the latest specials. And I feel, the clean tone is certainly there.

Do you own any Darkglass pedals ? It would be interesting to hear a comparison between the onboard distortion vs. the clean tone plugged into a Darkglass pedal. I own several Darkglass pedals and my current favorite is the X Ultra. I’m pretty sure it can’t replicate that pedal. However, I also own the B7KU, Alpha Omicron, VMT, and VMTD. I would be happy if it was comparable to any of those.
I don't I'm afraid. So I can't offer a comparison in this regard. I was always a Bass Big Muff and a Tech 21 user. I would say in my humble opinion that the Fuzz sounds Bass Big Muffy to me. Sorry. I know that's not much help!
