DarkRay - Man, I went there...

Really surprised this sounds as underwhelming as it does in the official demos. This pairing should be a no brainer, but it just sounds muddy and fizzy and terrible. I guess that's to be expected when you DI distortion, just hard to believe that a whole production team and/or marketing team would sign off on that.

Did you listen to it with headphones or actual speakers? I thought it sounded sweeeeet, can’t imagine MM sending out something that’s not rock solid.

Through my studio speakers. Just loved it!

same! I already own an SR5HH special but this got me excited too. Too bad I’m not into 4 strings but still props to MM for keeping things relevant and modern, these DarkRays are gonna be lot of fun. I’ll probably own one down the road haha

I kind of lost my bass enthusiasm during COVID after 37 years of playing. I don’t know, something about this bass ignited something in me. Might not be for everyone of course, but I’m looking forward to it and will share thoughts (good and bad -IMO) when it arrives.
Congrats on the new bass order!

Same sort of thing happened to me during the lockdowns-- spent very little time with it. Then as things began to reopen, my wife got me a new P-bass with flats. I started playing around with different types of flatwound strings, and that's what reignited my enthusiasm. Even put a set of Chromes on my black/maple SR Special 4HH...

The DarkRay would be right up my ally, as I have very little patience for pedalboards. Having the onboard overdrive in an already wonderful sounding bass seems like a great idea.

Really looking forward to your thoughts after it arrives.

in the meantime, Fender is releasing a line of reclaimed wood pens.....zzzzzzz

thought about this. In fairness, what else can they do? Every time they try to go outside the box on their instruments, produce anything that was conceived after 1963, they literally get punished. Nobody will touch it. Remember the Dimension bass? Me neither, and I damn sure never considered buying one. So I guess it’s pens or nothing.

This is my first post in a long, long time. The darkray came up on my FB feed and first time Ive been surprised with a bass offering in a long time. I'm am totally impressed with where Ernie Ball is heading with the stringray. They put a quiet a bit of engineering effort in to the special, that was the first major change they have done with the stingray for a long time. This is out of left field and I totally dig the collaboration with Dark glass. One thing I totally love about musicman is even after all these years, the quality is still as good as it ever was. Re the sound, the 'stock' sound still totally sounds like musicman, and from what I hear the colored sounds sound great! Not for everyone I get, but to the op, I'm totally jealous!!!

I wonder why nobody had the idea before, putting a great FX on board of a preamp.
This might be the Game changer in the bass building industry.
I took 5 seconds to catch me. Even if it sounds cheap (no way that this will gonna happen) I want it for the blinking knoby. Hopefully my wife has mercy and allows me to get one of theses nasty things (no way that this will gonna happen, because I have already too many).
