Daryl definitely using octave pedal too.
That drum solo was intense! I know some cats that grew up with Omar and Marcus Miller. Said Omar was a badass as a teenager!!

I remember reading where Marcus said Omar was the cat they all looked up to.That drum solo was intense! I know some cats that grew up with Omar and Marcus Miller. Said Omar was a badass as a teenager!!
+1. Worth owning the CD for its different arrangement, IMHO.The movie version of "I Burn For You" is not the same as one on the the 2-cd set.
Another in this time frame is Still Warm by John Scofield. Jones & Hakim are on this album.
Omar Hakim doing one of the coolest intros of a hit song:
Yeah, Jones did use Ashley preamps with crown power ampsI'm thinking Ashly SC-40, but the power switch on the left doesn't look like a stock one... it makes it look like an XLR out jack or something. I guess it's black with white knob caps.
Can anyone identify the (I assume) preamp sitting on the top if the rack? (Gray with chrome knobs)View attachment 3986335
The BP1 model seems entirely unknown to the Internet. I'm guessing it's the SC-40:It's an Ashly BP1. I had the same one as a teenager specifically because of him.
I do hear something akin to an envelope filter, but not knowing exactly how the soundtrack was recorded, I won't go out on a limb and suggest a signal chain. Nonetheless, I'm glad that I own both the DVD and the CD editions. Rest in peace, Kenny Kirkland.Since the live album is mixed in such a way you don't hear a lot of bass on that tune, am I the only one who hears a trace of envelope filter during the "When the World..." section? You hear it on Jones' last note in the song. Or is that just throaty Jazz Bass fret/string noise? I love his tone all over this and, to me, Jones makes the best Jazz Bass noise, even when it's a Guild Pilot.
Well, I'm glad I'm not insane. I found a blurb on Sting's web site about an interview with the band when they were supporting it that makes no mention of an envelope, but [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]:I do hear something akin to an envelope filter, but not knowing exactly how the soundtrack was recorded, I won't go out on a limb and suggest a signal chain. Jones's equipment consists of a 1966 Fender Jazz bass with stock pickups, strung with a Rotosound Swing Bass set; a Crown Micro-Tech 1000 power amp; an Ashly preamp; Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal distortion, volume, VB-2 vibrato, OC-2 Octaver and CS-2 compression sustain pedals; Roland SDE-3000 digital delay; and two Hartke 4-IO" cabinets with aluminium Hartke speakers. His J-bass was recorded both direct and amped, through a 300-watt Ampeg SVT with a Hartke cabinet, and Jones engaged all his effects except for the SDE-3000 and HM-2 units.
...been diggin' on this one during my stay-caThe opening track on Still Warm is killer! Love the head, and Darryl & Omar are so tight together.
