Dating a Fernandes

Hi

I have just got a secondhand Fernandes APb 5 and it has the serial number on the back. Does anyone know how I could go about dating this? I presume it was made in the 90's sometime in Japan.

Hmmm. I am glad you clarified which dating you meant... LOL!

Anyhow, I don't know how to date those. You could check their website: www.fernandesguitars.com and shoot them an email.

Other option would be to see if they date their neck/body by removing the neck and checking. Fender does that on all of their instruments. So, I don't see how Fernandes couldn't do the same.

My Fernandes has a number stamped on the body in the neck heel that seems to indicate the date--it's 980114, which I'm assuming means it's from 1998. I'd guess yours will have a similar stamp.

Mine has a serial stamped on the neckplate. 7011119. The headstock is the elongated (post lawsuit-style?), but the body is Fender-style.
I have only seen it in one catalog from 1985 (export catalogue perhaps?). Another Fernandes catalogue doesn't show the same bass, so I'm assuming that one was for the Japanese market - the headstock is the older style (Fender copy) and in the later catalogues the body is the more modern Fernandes style..
It also has EMG pickups which I understand was a factory option.
Does anyone have any more info on this?
