Dave Hall RIP

i just read on effects database that Dave Hall of Dave Hall Amps (DHA) passed away in August last year. Dave made awesome pedals for Bass and guitar, rack mounted units and valve amps. I took delivery of a DHA vt1- Di-eq-Bass last year and it is a joyful 12ax7 powered preamp/eq/drive/di pedal requested in plain orange. I know Dave was a member on this forum and regularly answered questions about his creations quickly and with grace and professionalism. He had many fans and must have brought sonic pleasure to many members. Rest in peace friend of Bass xxx

Slight update- according to effects database Dave passed after a heart attack in August 2018 - so this year to be precise- thoughts to his family x

I've only just seen this, very sad news. Dave was a true pioneer and an absolute gentleman to deal with.

I took delivery of a VT2 EQ-DI in May 2018, it was the last one he was making. It's been in storage for couple years since i moved house and I've just unpacked it again today.

I'd only ever played it through my Ashdown Combo before i moved (as that was my only amp at the time). I've rigged it up to my Ampeg PF50T today and my god it's even better than I remembered. So good in fact i was looking at maybe buying another pedal which is when i came across this post.

I'm very late but this is such sad news. RIP Dave

Dave did mention that the VT Bass di/eq/drive pedals were at their best used with a true valve amp (pre and power beast) so the PF50T must be an absolute pleasure. Yay for Dave Hall! My VT2 is the permanent link in my chain (athough not always on) and usually through only my sold state EBS although it is still a joy. The only true valve amp in my possession is a 1950s McMichael floorstanding valve wirless radio! Bass direct in through the gramophone input - lovely sound but low-powered and very unreliable at nearly 70 years old! I have had fun swapping out the installed EHX 12AX7 (in the VT2) for a couple of ancient european 12AU7s (a Brimar and an Italian brand i forget the name of), less gain but lovely tone from valves from the era! DHA may not be the legendary household name that some classics are but he truly deserves a place in the canon of Bass. RIP DHA

I originally bought it to "warm up" my SS combo, i bought the PF50T shortly after I moved and was still unpacking and i didn't feel the need to add the VT2 ( especially as it was in a storage facility 3 hours drive away at the time!).

I'm actually in the process of putting a pedal board together to clean up the rats nest under my desk and figured i either needed to include the VT2 or move it on. This pedal isn't going anywhere! Currently got a nice deep reggae/dub vibe on the blue channel, a Geezeresk overdrive on the red, hit the bypass and you get that pure Peg tone, it's a wonderful (if slightly accidental) set up!

That tube radio must be fun to play through?

I agree, i was weighing up either the EBS valve pre, the 2Notes Le Bass or the VT2, so pleased with my choice and I'm sure DHAs amps and pedals will become well sort after.

Yeah, it is sad news about Dave Hall, RIP.

I got a DHA VT1 which kicked the other overdrive and distortion pedals off my board. It's massive, takes 12v centre positive, is a bit noisy....all adds to the mojo though! It's great, although I just use it as an overdrive rather than as a DI. The only thing I'm considering replacing it with is the DHA VT2, not sure if it's really an upgrade worth the hassle of buying and selling though.
