Yeah, he's one of a few people from my school to "make it big" in jazz. Probably the most well-known so far is Brad Mehldau, Joel Frahm too although not many ppl know him. Richie is a really nice guy, it's cool to see someone here who's met him.
People will find about Joel Frahm, too, if they haven't had the pleasure of doing so yet. During my brief time in NYC, he was known among the younger guys as a real favorite.
For a chance to hear both Joel Frahm in top form AND one of the bassists we'll all be talking about some day, John Sullivan (currently Roy Haynes' bass player, former ISB Jazz Competition winner), check out drummer Pete Zimmer's CD "Common Man" (www.tippinrecords.com). It's a nice recording, and John's playing has hopelessly raised the bar for arco soloing in jazz (and he uses Spirocores, no less!)...
