I'm sitting here at my favorite local watering hole and someone brought up a Bowie song on the jukebox and multiple customers spontaneously clapped & cheered. How cool is that. . I just dropped in $5 and queued up more Bowie.

EDIT: A mid-20s couple comes in and sits down with their beers. China Girl is playing.

Her: Isn't that David Bowie?

Him: Yes. Bowie is a true music legend. Respect the Bowie.

Her: I totally get it.

Rather than being part of life, Bowie becomes a memory. As long as he's alive, there's a seeming currency to all he's done, even his earliest recordings, but when that artist passes, I hate how that changes everything.

I totally get that. It sucks. I've been thinking about Roger Waters. I'm 50 and he created Pink Floyd the year I was born. If he tours again I'm going, cost/distance be damned.
